So true. My younger daughter is a serial turtle assassin.
And my mother killed more canaries than I care to remember.
She used to feed them ground up aspirins until they fell off their perches.
Because they had colds, you know.
Because they lived on the screened porch.
Because they threw birdseed everywhere.
So she had to give them meds!!!
And it was a work of mercy that she wrapped them in a dishtowel and put them on the floor furnace grate until they were sort of “al dente”.

I don’t even want to know how often my parents wash their Border Collie (yearly? no way. every leap year?). There’s definitely no way he’s ever been to a groomer–he looks like a black-and-white sheep, all poofed out.
