Cradle Catholic here.
Like many, I fell away in my early 20’s, and found my way back shortly after.

Cool story, Christine! I’m with you! I’ve seen a lot of stories like this where Protestants actually help Catholics revert. I’ve also seen situations where Protestant family members have helped cradle Catholics go from lukewarm to on fire in their Catholic faith.
Come to think of it, one of the factors in my becoming a more serious Catholic was my being recruited by local Jehovah’s Witnesses and wondering whether their teachings were the true ones. This forced me to look at Catholic teachings and the Bible in a more scholarly way than just looking at the Witnesses’ “proof texts,” and convinced me of my faith more than ever.

Baptized in April of 1940 and have been Catholic all my life. I love the Church and cannot imagine not being part of it.

I was raised by secular non-practicing Catholics and didn’t really know anything about Catholicism. But I heard God’s call clearly, finally, when I was 17 and was baptized at 19 at my university parish. Amen! 😃

Convert here. I converted 50 years ago from Southern Baptist when I was 13 years of age. In later years I was married and divorced and there after strayed back to being baptist. Almost two years ago I returned home to the Catholic church where I was welcomed back into the family and due to life changes even able to receive the sacraments again. All the years I was gone I still had the belief and loging of being a catholic.

Greetings from Singapore!

Baptised at birth, fell away briefly and returned again … especially in these last two years, I have been nourished by the works of Pope John Paul II and Scott Hahn.

Hello Singapore

I too feel we were blessed with a great pope in the person of John Paul II. And I see greatness in Pope Benedict as well. I too enjoy Scott Hahn. We have been blessed with great leaders in the church and with great teachers too. May we follow them wisely.

A pretty typical story: Cradle Catholic, zeal faded over time to nothing, nearly went with the New Age stuff but it wasn’t long before, with some divine assistance, I realized that stuff is all of the devil. I’ve been pretty good since the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows 🙂

Of course being a weak fallen human there are no guarantees I’ll stay this time around either. In fact there have been days when I’ve been all but convinced I should just call myself a pagan again because I don’t always love God and neighbor like I ought. But with God’s grace it’s possible.

Convert - raised Episcopalian, joined Baptist church in 1999, entered RCIA in October 2006, confirmed February 2008 (had to get Decree of Nullity, so I didn’t come into the Church at the 2007 Easter Vigil). Now I’m an RCIA team member, sponsor, and one of 5 reflection leaders, and I love it!👍

I’m a cradle Catholic, but didn’t really develop a passion for the Faith until I turned 18 (almost 2 years ago).

cradle catholic here. Got lost. Now at Home and will never leave again. 🙂 👍

I was born into the faith by a Catholic mother and a convert Catholic father. I received all the Sacraments in their right order, but I wasn’t really involved in the faith. I was what you might call a Catholic in name only. I strayed from the faith for several years, and thought about going to several Protestant churches, but by the grace of God, I attended a charismatic Catholic retreat for Young Adults and was immersed in the faith like never before. It was there that I met my first religious ever, and received the Sacrament of Penance. I came back to the Church much stronger in my faith and determined to learn all I could about it. This was in December 2007, and was also when I started my discernment to religious life. 🙂

I wonder what the figures would look like if “revert” or “late-start” were options too :).

Interesting poll, though. If we included reverts, I bet half of the people on this forum or more would turn out to be revert/convert.
