I’m a male who, after years of carrying rosaries in my pocket that always got broken, finally bought one that is made with “unbreakable” parachute cord. It’s very cool and I’ve had it blessed but the problem I have is that, as a result of the cord, the beads are much larger and wooden so it takes up a lot of room in my pocket. However, I can wear it comfortably as a necklace under my shirt.
My cradle Catholic wife (I converted in 1995) insists that it’s not “appropriate” to wear a rosary as a necklace, yet I have seen religious vocations do it. Other research, including asking a couple of priests, has been conflicting or vague.
So please settle this little issue: Is it appropriate to wear a rosary as necklace?
