Just curious as to what people think about the connection between the two, are they even connected? As society grows in it’s sins will that cause an increase in natural disaster? Or perhaps there is absolutely no connection between the two.

I can’t recall ever reading anything in Catholic theology that suggest any connection.

sin and natural disaster is more of a superstition of mind than a issue…
praying to God to endure natural diseaster, to remain of a charitable heart in the face of is the challenge that has to be meet.

The real disaster of sin that is ignored is the reality of Hell, to suffer all your life of natural disaster on earth would be nothing in the face of Hell for eternity…

the book of Job is a good reflection on, as is sodom and gamorrah to God’s mercy and justice ability…

superstition comes more into play to todays FEAR that sells, example insurance to save us from the perils of natural disaster, the US would mathamatically be in for a natural disaster of modern propertion due to the horrrors of socialism, that looking to government to save the people, rather than the mercy and justice of God. todays fictional economics say the government is going to provide, devoid of God, and considering todays society devoid of charity to one another, and nobody is obligated to feed the people, provide health care, and to shelter people.

the government in ignorance cant force people to serve others, that is slavery, socialized medicine is the government of ignorance assuming that those that toil at their fruits of labor to heal others. , must provide it to people devoid of their having to toil for their fruits of labor.

The People of a great supertition of ignorance now look to a Government to provide, profits of a pitted against each other to gain.
rather than a self sufficient mind of looking to God and charity of heart of others, charity to feed and provide to others.

In most simple words, nobody is obligated to feed the multitude of people that get feed today across the nation, nor are people obligated to provide health care, or even water… to be charitable… if it suddenly came to be, not profitable to feed others, nobody is obligated to … and if the food is seazed from those that raise it, are they are NOT obligated to raise more, when their fruits of labor has already been taken from them.

A good comparison to this is the Menonites of Russia, they were told in socialism that the US now falls into, to keep raising the food by their toil and strong work minds of looking to God to provide. but they couldnt keep the fruits of their labor, that was now the govenrments to do as it saw fit. 'They fleed for America, to escape the horrors of socialism, contributing to the starvation of the people, that socialism calls for…

essentially, leaders that call for socialism call for natural diseasters of the people, socialism is the sin that removes charity…

a food for thought is, to return to charity, is to eliminate insurance, and to return to charity to the poor. yet that is too simple and real of a solution.

My advice: look at legitimate Catholic prophecy, which includes these 3 sources-Holy Scripture, approved apparitions and the prophecies of canonized saints. It is my personal opinion that we are seeing an increase in natural disaster due to the enormous crimes against God and humanity of our times and I expect these disasters to continue to escalate, along with any and all possible events of societal collapse. PREPARE.

prepare to what is a fair quesiton.

man made disaster is more the issue, for storms and earth qaukes are only natural, yet its the charity of heart that determines…the real tragidity of disaster.

abortion is a 911 every day, as is wars of revenge, as is todays pilfering of resources, land and water to make great profits today for a few.

Possibly, but there is no proof to suggest it, unless you look at Sodom and Gomorrah. 😛

Its hard not to think of that in the wake of the natural disasters we have been experiencing I think of these things

That one day maybe our earth will give out. Most likely not in our lifetime but as the earth was created in our far distant past, one day it will cease maybe as it ages? Not anything to worry about but as God appointed us through Adam as caretakers of our planet so we should be taking care of it so things don’t get worse faster than it should. It’s all about prevention and we should heed to warning signs that the earth is in trouble.

Also that God rains on the righteous as well as the unrighteous so we all should be prepared at all times.

Gods power is tremendous dontcha know it??🙂

I don’t know. There are however ‘natural’ disasters caused my man in the sense of not respecting the environment.

To my way of thinking, if sin and natural disasters were linked, the San Francisco earthquake would have been in 2005, not 1905, and an earthquake would have hit Germany during the Holocaust instead of devastating the poor, already-suffering people of Haiti 3 years ago.

Well, you just have to read the Old Testament to learn of God causing natural disasters to punish.

I want to point out that Germans were also a poor and oppressed people from suffering the after effects of WWI and the Treaty of Versailles was not making anything easier. So they grasped for something they thought was the arms of hope but was not. I feel for the German people and the Jews and all who lost their lives in that terrible war. It was hard for a German to come to America after that with what happened in their native land.

.

Yes, there is a connection between sin and suffering. But it’s not always an evident connection.

Look what the Catechism says about the effects of the Fall:

CCC 400 The harmony in which they had found themselves, thanks to original justice, is now destroyed: the control of the soul’s spiritual faculties over the body is shattered; the union of man and woman becomes subject to tensions, their relations henceforth marked by lust and domination.282 Harmony with creation is broken: visible creation has become alien and hostile to man.283 Because of man, creation is now subject “to its bondage to decay”.284 Finally, the consequence explicitly foretold for this disobedience will come true: man will “return to the ground”,285 for out of it he was taken. Death makes its entrance into human history.286

Harmony with creation is broken with the Fall.

Now, what this does not mean is that we can go around pointing at those who suffer and saying their sins caused it. Jesus rules out such misinterpretations in Luke 13:1-5.

A truly excellent point.

If, for example, climate scientists are correct, then increased hurricane occurrence and intensity would be connected to sin, but sins like greed, socially unjust economic development, glutton, etc. - all without any need for supernatural intervention.

The Pharisee and Essene world view was that there was a direct connection between personal plight and sin. As you note above, Jesus refutes this position and not judging others is a Beatitude.
