I was talking to a freind and one of the things that came up is the culpability (Sp?) of sin and receiving the eucharist. We know that force of habit and addiction can lessen or eliminate the effect of the issue. But, if one was afflicted with an addiction to some form of sin and were trying to get over it, at what point does one say that he is doing that sin free of this or still under the addiction. We couldn’t deciede or figure it out. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks and God bless.

If one is conscious that a certain action is a sin, even allowing for a lesser degree of culpability due to addiction or habit, it still remains a sin and, IMHO, sin is still sin and offensive to God. Only God can know how serious it is, so the person concerned should go to Confession frequently in order not to receive the Eucharist unworthily, which might bring condemnation upon him/her.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to take the chance. Besides which, frequent Confession brings Graces that can help in overcoming sinful habits and addictions.
