:confused:I was just wondering if a person can actually have no sin in his or her life? Various opinions and beliefs in the protestant religions. Some believe that we can actually have no sin. I don’t believe that and in The Bible it says " If we say, “We are without sin,” we deceive ourselves, and the Truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8… and in verse 10 it says If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us. Now in 1 John chapter three verses 4-10 also talks about sin. So…I’m really curious how the church interprets these verses. Thanks, Peter

Every person in Heaven enjoys this state. 😉

This side of Eternity, only the Blessed Virgin, as far as I am aware.

EDIT: And, of course, Jesus. I presume you meant humans who are not also God, however.

Yes,with God’s help it is posible to live without sin.Yes, a person who would say he is without sin would be in sin.No saint would tell you he(she) is without sin.Our very nature is sinful but holy people’s sins are actual sins.Actual means you knowingly sin through your own fault.Saints sin but they aren’t actual but do to our fallen nature which we all carry to our deaths.God overlooks those sins and are covered by Jesus’s sacrifice to the Father for our sins.We are made perfect in Christ Jesus. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.No,not one is righteous. There are none that seek after God.Mary our Blessed Mother is the only person who committed no sin except Jesus.

No, we can never be completely free from sin and this is due to our fallen nature. Even the saints sin, however, it is possible to be free from all mortal sin. Through our fallen nature, we will never be perfect in this life. We will always have times where we slip and say something uncharitable, not speak up about something when we should, etc. God does not just simply look past these, he wishes that we recognize our shortcomings and in this recognition, he wishes that we fly to him, realizing our nothingness and our total dependence on him. When we ask forgiveness for them, He forgives them, he doesn’t just simply look past them.

Not in this life.

What other type of sin is there besides “actual” sin?

God overlooks those sins and are covered by Jesus’s sacrifice to the Father for our sins.

Our sins are forgiven, but not overlooked, as schu2250 pointed out. Well get “punished” in some way or manner in purgatory.

We are made perfect in Christ Jesus. (in the next life) We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.No,not one is righteous. There are none that seek after God.Mary our Blessed Mother is the only person who committed no sin except Jesus.
