Any feedback on when it is okay to share “hidden faults” of another.
What if somone is doing something hurtful?

That is some shaky ground. I think there are situations where it would be best to either talk to the individual who is doing something hurtful, or say nothing at all, or tell someone who has the “need to know” clearance and can be trusted to keep the info to themselves. To me, it all depends on the details of the situation as to what to do. Such as, is the situation medical or emotional, is it professional or casual, is it someone under your authority or not…I guess ultimately, if someone is in trouble, we should try to help as we would want to be helped.

I think it depends on the circumstance. If someone has been drinking and is about to get in the car to drive, it would be appropriate to tell his wife that he’s not in good shape and she should drive. It protects her, him, and strangers on the street.

If someone’s hidden fault is hurting someone who is a child or vulnerable adult, you have a duty to protect them.

But I think most cases of outing someone’s faults are not for such pure motives.
