Do not allow pride to chain decades of debt around the neck of your child.

If you just google “Top 14 law schools” it should take you to a rankings list.

Yes, this a big concern! It’s basically what I did.😐 She is very practical, and we are trying to give her sensible advice!
Thanks everyone!

Which are the top 14? Is there a link to a listing that you can share?
US News and World Report pretty much does the main law school ranking every year. The same schools tend to be in about the same spots, they just shift a couple notches around. It’s rare that a school will move more than a couple notches, although it does happen occasionally.

US News does similar rankings for “B-schools” (MBA programs).

I guess even after my first job employers will still care about where I went to school?

You are way overthinking this. It depends on what employers, what you are trying to do, what you accomplish on your “first job”, how long after your “first job” you are looking for work.

My “first job” was back in the 80s and I guarantee you that no recent employer of mine is bothering to look at where I went to school back then, as it has been decades, I have done a whole bunch of things since then, and attended several other schools.

Your school choice at any point in time does NOT determine your entire life going forward. Neither does your GPA. Be at peace and just get from Point A to Point B without worrying about Points C through G, as it’s likely your life will take a few turns you didn’t expect along that path anyway.

I absolutely hate that in a way. I hate how it’s basically useless to go to law school unless you go to one of those 15 schools and the reliance on GPA.
Simple supply and demand. Too many people with JDs, not enough vacancies. Employers can afford to be really picky.

I wouldn’t say it’s useless to go to law school unless you go to a Top-15. I would say it’s important to keep your costs really low (don’t borrow 250k to attend a school where the average grad makes a 50k starting salary), and accept that certain career paths will be more or less closed to you.
