I mimicked the priest elevating the chalice with a glass of coke. Have I commited mortal sin? It was a joke with no intention of malice, but i fear im in mortal sin.

I , but i fear im in mortal sin.
did you intend to commit mortal sin? then you did not commit mortal sin. It is impossible to commit mortal sin by accident there must be full knowledge and full free will consent. cut this out and tape it to your mirror so you never have to ask this question again. If you don’t have full knowledge of what is a sin, make it your business to ask for the religious education available in your parish, to read the Catechism, to read reliable Catholic sites especially this one on the internet and find out.

Yes, you committed a mortal sin and perhaps a scareligious.

Why would you do such a thing?

You need to confess this. You didn’t give your age, so I do not know what to say.

please provide a citation for your claim
mortal sin requires 3 things
grave matter–which this may or may not be depending on context, intent etc
full knowledge
full free will consent

since nobody here is the priest in this person’s confession none of us can categorically say “you committed a mortal sin”

I think he was joking.

Did you mean something disrespectful in your joke? or did you do it with no disrespectful thoughts but afterwards it seemed bad to you?

Maybe just mention it in your confession to be sure.

God knows how to laugh too.
Sometimes we are inconvenient, but who never was?

I fear that people are going to flood in and confuse you. Did you do it to intentionally disrespect, or mock the Consecration? If so, confession. If you did it just because it’s cool, or you were bored and had nothing better to do ( we all have those times, I admit to pretend listening to confessions while in the shower), then you have nothing to worry about.

If you did it to make fun of the consecration and mock the eucharistic sacrifice it is a sin. But if you were “playing Mass” (which I did frequently when I was younger) and there are no bad intentions I thinks thats ok, who knows a vocation to the Priesthood could be born from this.

I frequently intone the gloria and creed and as another poster said pretend to hear confessions.

It really depends on your intentions.

When we were kids we “played” Mass. No sin there.

Unless you did it during Mass.

Why do so many of these threads go on and on? The second post accurately answered the OP’s question.

Why do so many of these threads go on and on?
Because many members have an opinion on the matter and some of those opinions may conflict with other opinions expressed and since this is a DISCUSSion board, those differences of opinions should be DISCUSSed
