I dont know how to say this. Whenever I sin I feel a punishment coming, or that I deserve one. not like a spanking from an adult, but like God is going to do something. I know that there is Confession and prayer to express sorrow, change, and most of all absolution, but I feel like I am getting off easy sometimes. I am a human and I fear punishments, but at the same time I feel like I am taking advatage of God. I dont do it on purpose. I get this feeling all through the OT and in some parts of the NT
Whenever I look up this topic, it comes back with all the grace and mercy stuff. I realize that without these there is no hope, but cant a punishment fit into the equation?

Well, I suppose purgatory could be seen as a punishment for your sins in a way, because if you didn’t sin, wouldn’t need to be cleansed. Absolution doesn’t erase the need for this.

stay in touch with a good spiritual adviser (Priest hopefully), and go to confession,…often…👍

this thought is a sign of the need to grow in maturity in your relationship with God. Move beyond the vision of God as stern judge, punishing Father, policeman. Prayer is the way to do this. Daily, regular, devotional prayer. Based on Jeff Cavins remarkable testimony about his faith journey, I would venture to ask: what is your relationship with your own earthly father? and to suggest you attempt to heal that relationship as well.
