I really enjoying playing Civilization, and want to play Civ 2. It has been OOP for years however and is up online by previous purchasers for people to download for free. Is it a sin to download and play this game, since no money would go back to the publishing company and it can be bought USED on Amazon from anywhere to a penny to 50 cents.

Send an anonymous check to the developer for $20:D 😉 Or maybe something like that:shrug:

The developer is no longer looking to gain profit by not making that game available anymore. They’re onto Civ 4.

I know, I was suggesting that you download it, then pay for it separately.

Reclaimed, folks in the CivFanatics forums suggest that since Civ2 is still being distributed as part of the Civilization Chronicles box set then the copyright is still in effect.

One person also indicates that the Entertainment Software Association has stopped some sites from distributing Civ2 for free.

Buying a used copy seems the safest way to stay within the law.

Buy the used copy for a penny, and then your conscience won’t bug you. I wouldn’t say you would have to re-install it (since it’s the exact same thing…both are digital files that contain the exact same code…that would just be legalistic), but you will be fulfilling the spirit of the commandment.

If a penny is too much, I’ll give you my copy. Then no sin, and no worry. You just pay for shipping.

Ok I have a confession. I have downloaded things from bittorent and P2P that would be considered… well…

But , is this a venial sin? or a mortal?
