Since I am divorced, may I receive Holy Communion?

Question asked on behalf of a friend:
I am a woman in my forties. About 12 years ago I was married in the Catholic Church. I soon realised the marriage was a terrible mistake. I persevered for nearly 10 years and then obtained a civil divorce. I deeply regret my part in the marriage failure. I now live on my own and have no intention of re-marrying. Can I receive Communion at Mass?
 
Dear friend,

You may certainly go to Confession and receive Holy Communion. However, since the Church still considers you to be married, you may not date in the sense that single people do.
