For the Feast of the Holy Family, one of the songs used at Mass was “Sing of Mary, Pure and Lowly”. The second verse so beautifully narrates the love that Christ had for his Mother. Has your church used this hymn at a May Crowning or a feastday Mass of the Virgin Mary?

Sing of Mary Pure and Lowly was written by an Anglican priest of a religious order. It was associated with Mary’s Annunciation.

It is popular with Anglo Catholic parishes and of course Ordinariate parishes. It also is in the Hymnal of 1940 and I would assume in any newer editions.

Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

My church has used it. We last used it for the Assumption. I really like that hymn because it beautifully portrays the relationship of Jesus and Mary and then honors the Trinity at the end.

It is a beautiful hymn. This and other hymns and traditions are part of what Pope Benedict said were “treasures that the Anglicans coming into the Ordinariate would bring into the Church”. Rome was very careful that nothing that was not of Catholic theology would be allowed in the Anglican Use Mass, Evensong/Evening Prayer etc.

If one would really think about it, there is much music/songs that are purely Protestant that many Catholic Churches sing during Mass today and no one seems to object.

I admit to be traditional and feel all music during Mass should be sacred and inline with Catholic teaching.

God Bless

We sang it this morning at Mass. We also sing it at May Crowning. One of my favorites!
