I have heard so much of this singing nun.
This was the first time to hear her voice.

It was okay. Even though she still gave the song her personal touch, I would have preferred something different. It is a Madonna song and to me was written with a sexual theme. Even though she is dressed as a nun in religious settings, it is hard not to remember Madonna performing the song.
 
Madonna was before my time so this worked for me. Sister Cristina has a habit of taking secular love songs and making them religious which is genius in my book.
 
If you ever saw the Madonna video of that song or saw her performance on any music awards show you might think this was not the best choice.
I don’t know what other secular songs she has done.

I felt differently when I heard it probably because I didn’t have MTV and that influenced by the sexiness of the video. I also was influenced by Cornerstone Media’s Psalm 151 and listening to secular song lyrics and finding positive values in them. I admit this one is right on the edge but I wasn’t wrong that it originally wasn’t, or didn’t have to be, about sex. From here:

Sister Cristina’s version doesn’t change the lyrics (save for a few, e.g., “baby” is dropped) but the meaning is closer to the songwriter’s.

To be honest, I got a bit emotional listening to Sister Cristina’s version.
 
I too never had MTV so that may be why I never saw music videos before YouTube. Even now I prefer not to watch them so my impression of the song isn’t influenced visually. My buddy on the other thread gave me this quote from Sister on her song choice:

Upon a closer reading of the lyrics, I couldn’t find anything overtly sexual besides the word virgin which is a sign of purity. I’m actually really starting to like the song by sister. I also learned the original music video was also filmed in Venice. Sister Cristina just makes everything about pop culture better.

Hope it gets to 1 million hits soon.

I bet it’ll be there by the end of the day. It’s now at 940,000+ views! :bigyikes: From my last post, which was about 12 hours ago, it’s gained about 240,000+ views! At the rate this is going, it’ll probably reach a few million in a week.
 
I’ve read some comments by others that say Suor Cris shouldn’t sing songs that are sexual in nature, but to me, it really is about how the artist interprets the song. It makes me think of St. John of the Cross and some of the poems that he wrote. I’m sure some of u are familiar with some of his works, and what he writes about would make some people’s eyes widen, since if they aren’t familiar with his spirituality and love for God, they can definitely be interpreted as being sexual, but obviously, we know this great Saint, mystic and Doctor of the Church was just deeply in love with God, and everything that he speaks about in his poems are of a deeply spiritual nature that most of us can’t even begin to fathom.

Anyway, the video now has over 1.5 million views and counting. :cool:

Also, it appears Madonna has made a facebook post and tweet about this, but to be honest, I don’t get it. :confused:

Can someone explain what the “bitinghard” means? I’ll take it maybe she doesn’t like her rendition of it so she’s biting on her lips to suppress her anger? :confused: I don’t know, I guess only she knows.

A recent article released says that Suor Cris is aware that many people do not understand her song choice. I’ll just quote a few things here from the article:

Regarding the single which has had over eight million views on Youtube, Sister Cristina Scuccia confessed that she had never thought of performing this song with Madonna, but noted that she would not mind doing a “re-mix.”

I wonder about that last part about the empty chair. I’m assuming she means that God welcomes all to a relationship with Him? 🤷 Can I get some of your guys’ thoughts on that?
 
An incredibly beautiful song, and sister is radiant.
I’ve never heard Madonna sing, so it hasn’t been ruined for me.
 
It’s out! Yep, her 1st album is out! For those in the U.S., u can get it here on Amazon.

It’s also out now on iTunes. I might purchase individual songs, but I still need to finish listening to the previews of the songs first on iTunes. So far, though, I do like the Blessed Be Your Name song.

For other countries, I think if it’s not yet available, it should be out tomorrow world-wide for everyone else. 🙂

The article is in Italian, but I have it run thru Google Translate so most of it, does make some kind of sense for us non-Italian speakers.

For some reason, I’m kinda surprised that Suor Cri is in America now. She was just on The Today Show today, and performed “Like A Virgin” there: today.com/id/3041478/vp/56469834#56469834
Since she’s already here, though, I’d be interested in seeing her on Good Morning America since I know the co-host there (and former professional NFL player) Michael Strahan really likes her. I have a feeling he’d be ecstatic.
