Should the Our Father be sung at Mass. To me it is THE prayer.
It seems to be more of a prayer if not sung.
 
He who sings prays twice. Singing has an ancient association with prayer and singing prayers has a long and glorious history in the Catholic Church - known as Gregorian Chant. That said, it certainly isn’t required to sing and if you get more out of speaking the words, then you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
 
The entire Mass was intended to be sung and at one time it was!
 
In every single religion that I know of, besides Christianity, there is no such thing as a “service” that is not sung. Prayers are meant to be sung, and it was probably for prayer that the first primitive peoples began singing.
 
Of course, it’s probably best to distinguish “chant” from “singing”.

The Our Father, when sung, is actually kinda tacky.

When it is chanted, on the other hand, as in a High Mass, it’s rather beautiful.

Chant is just heightened speech.

who is waiting to be taught simpler – let alone any – melodies for the Latin Creed and Lord’s Prayer (but not holding his breath).

I disagree, although perhaps it is only because we have not been listening to the same arrangements.

I have been in a choir and we have several versions that are lovely and moving.

Particularly so is the Our Father by Kedroff. Last year we would tour and at each new location it brought tears to some peoples eyes. It is gorgeous!
 
wait…i just realized this is the version that the Fraternites Monastiques de Jerusalem used (in French of course) that I mentioned in another thread. I think I’ll go buy the sheet music of the English version.
 
I love the Mass at all times, but am particularly moved during Easter. We sing almost everything!
