IS IT OK IF DURING THE SINGING OF THE “LORD’S PRAYER” (IN OUR LANGUAGE) I SUNG THE “PATER NOSTER” DURING THE HOLY MASS? I JUST WANT OT FEEL FOR MYSELF THAT I BELONG TO THE LATIN CATHOLIC CHURCH… AS WELL AS THE AGNUS DEI…?

IS IT ALSO OKAY IF I PRAY THE ROSARY IN LATIN? I DONT UNDERSTAND ALL THE WORDS IN LATIN, BUT OPPOSITE OF ALL THE PRAYERS IN LATIN IS A TRANSLATION IN ENGLISH

Not if you sing it outloud and others can hear. That would be disruptive. Why is it more important for you to feel as if you are part of latin Catholic Church in general instead of being part of those you are worshiping with?

As for the Rosary, once again, as long as it is not outloud and disruptive to others if said in a group.

Maybe you should seek out special days. For example: in our church (and others?) on First Fridays of adoration, there are many things sung in Latin. Seek the times your Church does sing in Latin.

God Bless,
Maria

Find an “indult” parish in your area.

Here’s a great listing…

Do what I did…I go to an Indult TLM every Sunday…everything is in Latin 🙂 It really makes you feel part of the Latin Catholic Church.

If it’s really that important to pray in another language I would certainly do so under the breath, or as others here have suggested try to find a liturgy in the language. We are to worship as a community, we really need to pray together as if with one voice.

I sometimes have the opposite problem, the parish I attend might have some prayers in Slavonic or Arabic. I know what the prayers would be in English but I do not know the words in the other language, so I mutter the English form as softly and unobtrusively as possible to allow the congregation to pray in their words.

In the United States there would be many immigrants who really must deal with this as not a matter of choice but unavoidable circumstance. The most common liturgical language in the USA being English, many faithful cannot find an accessable Mass in Polish, Tagalog or Spanish. They will simply have to make do, and think the prayers in the way they know them.

I don’t feel that praying in Latin is that important an issue though, it is not central to being a Christian, it’s merely a preference and doesn’t represent a hardship. I can hardly imagine the Lord asking us on Judgement Day: “Well, did you pray in Latin?”

I don’t see any problem with singing the prayers in another language (be it Latin, Spanish, Italian, Polish or whatever) so long as one isn’t trying to be disruptive with them. I believe that this could be done discreetly in a way which satisfies everyone’s sensibilities. If it is distracting to others or done in some way as to make a show of it, then one might want to think twice about whether it ought to be done.

As for the Rosary, in particular, if one is merely praying it alone, fine. I pray the prayers in Latin sometimes, myself. If one is praying it with others, again the question is whether one is able to carry this off effectively without distracting others from their own prayerful spirit. If one is leading a portion of the rosary, it might be best to stick with the common language, unless you first ask them whether they would mind if you lead your part in Latin or whatever other preferred langauge that you feel most comfortable with.

thanks for your reply!

i sing these prayer silently, i am the only one who can hear myself singing in latin coz i dont want to attract attention or cause some disruption. i done rosary in latin very privately.

i think eventhough i pray in latin i still join the community coz we pray just one prayer but only in different language.

i just want to sing latin prayers myself coz in my place (even in my country) latin masses is never celebrated (unless a member of the Vatican (archbishop in Vatican) is celebrating the mass and most of the faithful are seminarians and religious)
