Singing the creed

Do any of your churches chant of sing the Profession of Faith?
If so does the crowd sing along?
 
Thats a new one on me. Does this happen at your church? How does it go?:confused:

I came across a couple arrangements in some old hymnals in Latin and English. I’ve never heard it done… So I wondered if it was being sung anywhere?

JMJ, that was a nice link. Who is that recording by?
 
Wow! Hadn’t even thought about it in years. There was something majestic about it when our old Irish pastor broke into Gregorian chant at the beginning of the Credo.
 
I have a vague memory of this some time ago. Is there a problem with this?
 
Nope, I have never seen it anywhere across parishes in ND, MN, or WI.

I can only imagine the difficulty and lack of interest for setting the Creed in English to music.

I have not heard it sung in recent memory if at all, but have been waiting to learn a simple setting to do so ever since the last revision of the GIRM. (But I am not holding my breath)

At Mass today the priest said a few lines of the creed, such as “Do you believe in God the Father Almighty, his son Jesus Christ,” and the people responded with “I Do.” That was very different for me. I think I would prefer to sing it.

I was at a mass too that they did this I think once because they were going to have a baptism so to short the time.

I have a CD that the Memorare is song (kind of chanted sung)beautifully in Latin, I almost have all the words memorized now. 🙂

The ordinary form at my parish does not, but the extraordinary form does, of course, when the Mass is sung. It’s actually kind of cool to see continuity in Catholic worship when I leave the traditional Mass and hear on EWTN radio Mass the exact same setting of the Creed I just sang. When I think of the Creed, I automatically sing in my head the opening line of Credo III.

Just curious do you sing the Our Father in English?
Does anyone know if this is song at mass too?

At our group meeting once a month we sing our blessing for thanks for the meal to the tune of Addel wiese ( I know I did not spell this right) . I don’t have the words right now will have to look it up. dessert

Yep! EVERYTHING gets sung or chanted, except the sermon.

Is that part of the Roman Catholic Church?? I once unknowingly walked into one of those services, it was kind of cool how they sung the entire service.

There are settings for the Our Father in English. We chant it at our parish sometimes, especially on solemn occasions.

Our music director has requested that the whole parish learn the Our Father chant in Latin for our 100th year anniversary next year. 👍
