Is it it better to give in to sexual sin (self abuse) to avoid all the lustful thoughts and the temptation to look at women and at immoral pictures that occur when you don’t?

Is it better to murder someone in order that one might end a continual habit of beating and abusing that person? Extreme but it may answer your question…teachccd

I would say, pray about it. Pray pray pray. Ask God for help to deal with the BASIC problem, and not just come up with some band-aid solution…

Kathrin

And why not do evil that good may come?—as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just.
(Romans 3:8)

There lies at least one of the guiding principles of moral theology: we must never do evil so that good may result.

Jeremy

No.

Such sin leads one into a downward spiral of repeated sin.

You’ve already been told that you can’t do an evil to obtain a good.
You should not be avoiding lustful thoughts but learning to master them.

It seems strange to me that one would commit a mortal sin in order to avoid temptations which in them selves are not sinful. If pornography is involved the only solution, and I have been there, is to go “cold turkey” on magazines or web sites that are obscene. Looking at pornographic materials is like pouring gas on a fire and then being surprised when it flares up and burns you.

I suppose I would liken that to…is it ok to do a little cocaine to avoid becoming a drug addict? LOL Maybe not the best analogy, but I hope it helps.
