Hello all,

I recently succumbed to a sexual temptation and committed a mortal sin. Worse, I did so while wearing a miraculous medal. I am wracked by anxiety that seems diabolic in nature, as if the evil one is saying “See? All that grace and you still managed to screw it up.”

Can anyone offer and word of advice?

Wearing a Miraculous Medal or Scapular does not mean you will not commit mortal sin. However the fact that you feel such hurt and remorse can be viewed as a good thing. The nature and evil of mortal sin is perhaps highlighted even more to you now.

Go to Confession as soon as possible, confess your sin and resolve not to do it again.

I’ll let someone else who is better schooled in moral theology answer this. In the meantime, can I just say that I’ll remember your predicament in my prayers (even though this isn’t a prayer forum).

You are not alone. Make an act of contrition and go to confession at the earliest opportunity! Christ’s Divine Mercy is waiting! You are in my prayers!

Be aware that the Blessed Virgin, particular under her title as the Immaculate Conception is most odious to the devil. The more you keep her close to you the more he will try to fight against you.

Thank you all for responding so quickly. If I may ask, please pray for me. I will do the same for you.

Are we perfect unless the devil tempts us?
Perhaps it’s good that we blame all our weaknesses on the enemy or perhaps we might take responsibility for our own weaknesses sometimes.
Catechism
1734 Freedom makes man responsible for his acts to the extent that they are voluntary. …

Either way Rob2 is right imo, medals are not talismans.

There is no alternative but to confess and move on. Persevere.
What else, do we collapse entirely and abandon our faith over it? No, of course we don’t, we ask for forgiveness for our weakness and plead for greater strength to overcome the flesh.

God bless.

Miraculous medals aren’t magic.

You sinned. Go to confession. There isn’t anything diabolic going on. And if you are having intrusive and compulsive thoughts, talk to your pastor about them. If you suffer from anxiety or compulsive behavior, talk to a counselor.

You’re being melodramatic.

Go to Confession and then get back to living. Make sure you never let a day go without heartfelt prayer and works of mercy. Trust in God.

Peace.

Here is Father Jean Nicolas Grou talking about dealing with faults, including if they are grave faults.

It is disrespectful to the BVM of course. But God is merciful, go to confession, aim for perfect contrition.

Dear fellow CAFer, the evil one loves to taunt us with our failings.
Pay no attention.
Pick yourself up.
Go to confession.
Make a firm resolve to do better next time .
:pray:t2::pray:t2::pray:t2: For you.

This same situation has happened to me a couple times also with Miraculous Medal and Crucifix since I wear them 24/7 and I did feel bad after and went to Confession. Let wearing the MM be another motivation for you to persevere, as well as any possible embarrassment in confession. Let these motivate you to stay pure!

If you need any help on impure temptations, just let me know, I can offer advice. One piece of advice I’d give right now is to give up something you like as a sacrifice, because it will give you more strength and willpower to deny sexual temptations. For example, if you can’t say no to a Pepsi or chips or a lotto ticket, how can you say no to masturbation, or porn, or whatever your sexual temptation is. Cold showers are also a good thing to do as it gives you control over your body again.

And always remember to have positive goals! Don’t have a goal of not doing some particular sin because you are being hard on yourself and pressuring yourself and sexual temptations arise when we are stressed, pressured, and lonely so don’t add more stress! Instead, have a goal of being the kind of person you want to be. Strive for purity instead of striving to avoid impurity. You will be in my prayers and if you need further advice just ask
