Women’s “porn” can be romance novels, which may seem harmless yet because of the element of fantasy and emotions, can be just as addictive for women as more blatant porn can for men. We are (usually) more language-driven so the written word can be very powerful for us; we then create the images in our own heads, not necessarily looking at an image on paper or in a video, but directing the movie inside our own heads. I know that at one point, for example, one of my fantasies was having a man whisper into my ear, “I want you.” Nothing else was necessary, just those 3 words.

Just as with men, once those images or word-pictures exist in our brains, they are difficult to eradicate. It takes a lot of dedication and self-control and the help of the Holy Spirit to let go of those ready-made images. I think so many young men do not understand this, they believe it is harmless and by the time they realize what has happened, their minds will never be the same. It will always take effort to intervene, rather like an alcoholic staying away from that first drink.

Sexual temptations certainly do affect both men and women.

In general they affect men and women differently though. Some women are addicted to pornography. Far more men are. Some men do get wrapped up in self image- obsess about clothes, hair, etc, develop eating disorders, and so on. Far more women do.
While I appreciate what you’re saying, I believe it is important to understand that women are just as sexual as men. And it is from sex drive (a natural drive for human beings to possess) that activities such as watching pornography come from. Eating disorders, on the other hand, are far more driven by society, as women are taught by images in media, articles, even the way people speak, that they are not worthy of eating or feeling beautiful based on their size. Certainly scantily-clad women are common in the media, but they do not create the male sex drive, merely fuel it.

I appreciate that the OP meant no exclusion, but it is something that bothers me. I believe it may also alienate men who are struggling with their wives’ habits (not something I will give an opinion on, but it affects people).
Please do not try to make women responsible for the sin of others/men.
100% agreed. I think that things like porn start off during puberty or just before, from curiosity or frustration. They have for centuries before this age. Nobody else is responsible for an individual’s actions (I appreciate many will disagree with me, but that’s what I believe).

My entire post was on how woman are sexualized and how this is used to try and excite men and even influence women on how to act and dress, no-where did i blame it on one gender. Men and women are both responsible for this, men use this beauty and turn it into something destructive whether it’s in music, movie’s or the most extreme way, pornography. It is for both profit and pleasure. Women though who do this also play a part, they misrepresent the feminine nature and her beauty and lower’s herself to merely becoming a vessel which a man can use for pleasure, aswell she does this for pleasure and profit.

So you are blaming women too for causing men to sin.

Men sin of their own will as do women, as i said the woman’s sin here is using her beauty which itself is a gift, dressing and behaving in a way that turn’s herself into a sexual object which is misrepresentative of her femininity, she does this as i said for both profit and pleasure and this is used in society aswell as music, movie’s, pornography etc. The man who succumb’s to such sin’s does so out of his own free will. He can be either a direct contributor to the sexualizing of the woman for profit and pleasure or someone who take’s pleasure in it’s result’s. Both gender’s play a role. I don’t think i can get much simpler than that i’m afraid

No, you are clear. You are saying that women are in part at least to blame for the sin of men in the way they dress and behave.
I would say that the sexualisation of a woman is in seeing her as a sexual object not as a person and the irony is in turning around and blameing her for one’s sins.

What are you doing here, seriously. These woman that use their beauty as a mean’s to sexualize themselves whether through dress and behaviour is sinful because she display’s herself and her nature in an unnatural way from the way God created her. She invite’s and invoke’s men to see her this way otherwise it would not be profitable and be plastered everywhere in society. This is the sin. Man however who embrace’s this image and unnatural-ism therefore is guilty of sin. The real danger is when it influence’s women especially young women in society that if they dress this way men will like them more or that it’s fashionable, in reality it’s much the opposite. Men can be responsible for this in which they direct such thing’s and create it or seek pleasure from it’s result’s

he’s trying to “get” you – to say something he can turn around and accuse you of being like the Taliban who wants all women covered and not respected. The second you suggest that perhaps societal factors are influencing a sin, he will say that you are blaming women (and claiming that men are innocent victims – which they obviously are guilty of their sins).

Your position is pretty clear: Society can influence individuals to sin. Men can tempt women to sin, women can tempt men, men can tempt men, women can tempt women. All types of sin, not just those this thread discusses.

Sin hurts everyone, and it is our responsibility not to sin, and to help others to avoid it as well. St. Paul was clear about this in Corinthians

I agree but i have no idea why he/she has a problem with me and tried to twist my post like this

No one is telling them it is wrong or if someone is, like parents, then they are listening to friends or society to tell them what to do. It is a big hidden secret and everybody else knows it but them. They don’t realize that it can become an addiction. Everyone says its harmless which is a blatant lie. Even women who are concerned about their boyfriends porn/masturbation habits are ridiculed by other women who tell them it is no big deal and “he’s probably thinking about you, anyway”. It is ridiculous. I remember being in sixth grade wishing I had bigger breasts because the boys in my grade only seemed to care about girls with breasts. At the time I didn’t realize how wrong it was for a man to choose a woman by her chest size and that it was all rooted in pornography and dirty movies. Now I laugh at how silly I was but I pray for my future husband that he does not get caught up in pornography because it is a very difficult sin. 😦

Please understand that if you choose to post, some will disagree with you. What I am doing here, seriously, is saying how and why I disagree with you. All, men and women sin. However, I believe everyone should take responsibility for their own wrongs. When we try to blame someone else even in part, that is not accepting fully and taking full responsiblity for our own actions which is so necessary to acknowledge and take that step in stopping. Please read things you post like “She invites…”

Please stop with making personal jabs. If you disagree with my view, make your arguement properly and discuss.

I understand that some will disagree with me but i never once blamed woman for this, simply that both play a role in it. And do you disagree that if a woman sexualizes herself and invite’s men to look at her this way whether it be for profit, pleasure or both then that itself is not sinful? Yes from the moment a man embrace’s this he therefore sin’s himself and is fully responsible but that is my point, we both play a part

My post has nothing to do with your person, it has everything to do with the tactics you use. My post speaks for itself regarding my argument – you can respond to that

I posted this in another discussion we both took part in. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
  • by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
  • by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
  • by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
  • by protecting evil-doers.
1869 Thus sin makes men accomplices of one another and causes concupiscence, violence, and injustice to reign among them. Sins give rise to social situations and institutions that are contrary to the divine goodness. “Structures of sin” are the expression and effect of personal sins. They lead their victims to do evil in their turn. In an analogous sense, they constitute a "social sin."144
So with charity, your assertion that no one bears responsibility for anyone else’s sin, is not in accordance with Church teaching.

The good of our soul is more important than that of our body; and we have to prefer the spiritual welfare of our neighbor to our bodily comforts. If a certain kind of dress constitutes a grave and proximate occasion of sin, and endangers the salvation of your soul and others, it is your duty to give it up. O Christian mothers, if you knew what a future of anxieties and perils, of ill-guarded shame you prepare for your sons and daughters, imprudently getting them accustomed to live scantily dressed and making them lose the sense of modesty, you would be ashamed of yourselves and you would dread the harm you are making of yourselves, the harm which you are causing these children, whom Heaven has entrusted to you to be brought up as Christians."
Pope Pius XII to Catholic Young Women’s Groups of Italy

Emphasis mine. Note the “others” whom our own actions can endanger the souls of.

What tactics exactly? You are being personal.

What I did say is that everyone should take full responsibility for their own wrongs/sins. If I handed someone a gun/knife knowing that that person was looking to hurt someone, I am as responsible if he dooes hurt someone. Blaming women for using their beauty etc and inviting men to sin is an insult to women and a cop out.
