Rivers of wine in heavens

Question : In Surah Muhammad it is described ‘in heaven there will be rivers of wine which we can enjoy drinking from it’. I just found this to be contradicting in the fact we can’t drink wine here

…Wine in Paradise is dissimilar to wine in this life. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning):

There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink).[52:23].

Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): White, delicious to the drinkers, Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication there from.[37:46-47].

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): They will be served by immortal boys, With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication.[56:17-19].

Al Qurtubi said while interpreting the Ayah: {….and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink).} that ‘It means they (the dwellers of Paradise) do not say words nor do they indulge in delirium or say indecent terms as human beings in such a state do in this life.’

Ibn Abbas (Radiya Allahu Anhu) said: ‘The word “Laghw” in the verse means false talk, while the word Ta’theem means lies.’

Mujahid said: ‘This verse means they do not insult one another or commit sins.’

Qatada said: 'Evil of wine comes from Satan and Allah honoured the wine of Paradise from being infected by the filthiness and harm of the wine in this world, as stated earlier (in other verses).

The wine of Paradise does not cause headaches or stomach aches and does not cause the loss of right reasoning. And finally it does not drive people to say bad things….’

Allah also informed of its beautiful appearance and taste. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning):

White, delicious to the drinkers, Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication there from.

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): ….nor will they suffer intoxication there from.[37:47] this means they do not lose consciousness Ibn Abbas said:

‘There are four characteristics of wine: ‘drunkenness, headache, vomiting and urinating. Allah mentioned the wine of Paradise and He freed it from such characteristics.’

Men Wearing Silk Neckties

Samih - Canada: …I heard at some conferences that silk ties are allowed because they do not touch the skin.

…There is almost a scholarly consensus that wearing clothes made of pure silk in the form of a shirt or tie, etc., is forbidden for men. Some scholars permit it in exceptional cases such as when the man has a skin disease that requires wearing silk, or some kind of dire necessity, or because nothing else can be found to wear, etc.

The above scholarly opinion concerning the prohibition of silk is based on the explicit statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), “Wearing silk has been forbidden for the men of my Ummah.”

The Prophet’s words are categorical in their implication, so there is no way to justify wearing pure silk in ordinary circumstances.

Concerning clothes that are not made of pure silk, but are a mixture of silk and other substances such as cotton, acrylic, wool, etc., scholars are divided on the ruling about them.

When one looks closely at the various views concerning this issue, it can be concluded that if silk is not the main substance of the cloth, then it is permissible; say for example: if a certain piece of cloth is 60% cotton and 40% silk, then it shall be considered permissible for men to wear."

I will make one note about the “wine of Paradise” since Muslim Woman has said so much.

The only similarity between the things of Paradise and the things of this life is their name. We cannot even imagine what we will behond in Paradise (may Allah make us among those who enter it), so the use of a word like “wine” to describe a drink in Paradise certainly does not necessitate the implications of alcoholic beverages in this life.

No. A person can be a sinner without being an apostate.

When i was in RCIA, i asked the priest several questions - some which were beyond what normal RCIA classes usually teach. Some initiates were too afraid to ask them but i wasn’t. I will never forget what he told me - No question is a silly question. Of course, questions asked have to be sincere and not of mischevious intent. I certainly wasn’t trying to be mischevious. I know its hard to believe since you and i have been in heated arguements before, but give me the benefit of the doubt, will ya?

Then I’m sorry for calling your question silly.

I wasn’t asking God to explain himself. I am asking you, the follower of your prophet to help me understand what your religious text, the scripture you believe to have been God-breathed, that inspired your prophet to have his scribes write it down. I am asking what knowledge your sheikh, a fellow Muslim, has imparted unto you.

You are asking me to explain why God did something. How can I speak on behalf of God?

The quest for knowledge has always been an intergral part of human civilization. Humans are capable of intelligence (as God would have intended) and also naivety (Syaitan’s best weapon). Rationalization of God’s commandments means you want to follow His teachings as closely as possible without comprimising His mercy and grace. Of course, this also means only an experienced teacher and a holy man would be the best person for the job.

I don’t really think naivete is a tool of Shaytan.

Belief has a rational component, to be sure, but it also has a spiritual component, I guess you could say. It’s not all rational.

“We hear, and we obey.” If you acknowledge Allah to be your Creator and Sustainer, your sole Lawgiver… when he commands you to do something, what do you do? I mean, Shaytan rationalized–he gave God a rational argument. God told him to bow and he refused, saying that he was better than Adam, being made from fire instead of clay. And then God kicked him out, right? Not going to argue with him.

So I don’t think rationalizing is a way to help us follow God’s commandments better, not at all. It more often than not becomes an excuse or an obstacle to actually following the commands.

There is always a reason behind every commandment from God.

There is wisdom, absolutely. But that doesn’t mean we know the wisdom, nor that we need to know the wisdom behind the commandments in order to follow them.

We hear, and we obey.

In the case of day laborours , ya women are not equally paid. But in Govt. offices , Educational Instituions , hospitals etc , both male & female job holders get the same salary .

Since 1991 , Prime Minister & leader of the oppostion in the Parliament are women. Most probably , no other country has such record.

too bad . Just because some or many Muslims are disobeying the commands of God and His messenger , does not mean the order is invalid . All will get due punishment on the last day if die without repentance or God forgives them for their some good deeds.

I forgot to mention Muslim men in the world’s most populous Islamic nation also wear jewellery. The Muslims of South East Asia also wear talismans which is contrary to Islamic belief. This would mean millions of Muslims are doomed according to your words.

Don’t all silk come from the silkworm? Unless of course you are referring to synthetic silk?

Men must not dress or act like women. God gave them more physical strength & they must be fit for ’ jihad’ when & if necessary. If men start wearing gold ornaments , wearing fancy dresses , they may become unfit for the struggles.

So if a man cross-dresses, he will become physically weak? What’s ‘jihad’ got to do with physical strength unless Muslim men are called to be ready for physical battle at all times? Is that what you meant?

Contrary to your belief, Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister of India since 1966 and served four times in the office. Here is a further list of women Prime Ministers or Presidents from different countries. The oldest, dating back in 1960, from Sri Lanka. How come Saudi Arabia or any of the Gulf States don’t have one?
