I started a thread and now it is gone???

But I have searched a bit more and

A.(Exodus 20:5) - “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,”
B.(Deuteronomy 5:9) - “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,”
C.(Exodus 34:6-7) - "Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

I am without hope, so I go.

Is there a way that I can stop this from hanging over my own son???

Are you feeling lost because perhaps
of something your dad or grandpa did?
Don’t feel that way. The scripture you quoted
is one of the most confusing scriptures in the Bible.
There are other scriptures where God is talking,
and God explicitly denies that children are
punished for their parent’s sins, but rather, for their own.
Ask God to give you the Grace of thorough repentance.
May He bless you.

My dearest,
You are referring to the Old Testament.
Lo, the Good News is Nigh! In Jesus!
** Colossians 1:13 **
Code:
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son

		 								 				  					[2 Corinthians 5:17](http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?passage=2+Corinthians+5%3A17)
			** **

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Jesus came preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God to people and telling them to repent – not asking them to repent on behalf of others! Nor did He tell them to confess or repent for the sins of past generations, as if this were necessary for them to receive full forgiveness and blessing from God. No. Let us understand that because of Calvary, anyone who repents of their own sin, turns to the Lord and becomes a child of God, the past sins of their ancestors or nation cannot limit or withhold the full blessing of God in Christ Jesus for that person.

Our God is an awesome, God!

The Old Testament convicts God of pride, anger, and envy, all considered vices in humans.

HI Silver Sage,

First, welcome to the Forums. Second, nice name you have chosen, I imagine white hair similar to mine. Granddaughter starts college this year.

I may presume too much about your comment about ‘beyond hope.’ If I have, forgive me, But the following should never be forgotten or ignored by anyone.

No one is beyond HOPE. There is no pit so deep that one cannot find God’s LOVE and MERCY even deeper.

Jesus Christ, the Living Son of God, is all about salvation, not about condemnation.

The Church is not a museum of saints, but rather a hospital for sinners. None of us is perfect. We all need God’s forgiveness. All He asks is that we acknowledge our sins, sincerely intend to live a better a life even if sin remains a struggle, and seek the Sacrament of Reconciliation from a Catholic Priest.

For some, that may seem like too steep a hill to climb. These folks do not yet understand the depth of God’s LOVE and MERCY. My father converted and reconciled on his death bed.

Prayer is lifting your mind and heart toward God.
Pray for WISDOM - right knowledge and right judgment.
Pray for FAITH - belief in God even if you do not first understand all that you think you should.

The simplest prayer I know is, "Jesus, I trust in You."

Say this prayer often every day and Wisdom and Faith will come and you will see the Hope you may think is gone. Then one day, you may find yourself saying, “Hey, Father, can we talk?”

So very sorry that my name has been misunderstood, silver sage is what I use as a purification and offering. Nothing to do with what ever slight wisdom that floats around in the void of my head. I guess it is like the insence used to cleanse in mass.

I have talked/prayed my fool head off for some guidance and no answer that I understand that is why I seek more learned sources too help me along.
Thank you.

Hi SilverSage.

Jesus said,
Come unto ME, all of you who are burdened and heavy-laden,
and I will refresh you.

He did not add, UNLESS your dad was a big sinner!!

God bless,

My dear brother in Christ,

Know that the One who started a good work in you, is faithful to finish it in you. (Philippians 1:6)
Whatever your situation is, you still have free will. Free will to decide and reverse every bad habit or situation you are in right now, through His grace.

Maybe you have heard of this adage: (I’ve put ‘good’ on the phrase to convey a more positive message).
“When you sow a GOOD action, you reap a GOOD habit. Sow a GOOD habit, reap a GOOD character. Sow a GOOD character, reap a GOOD destiny.”
For the sake of your son, Be man enough! A good one that is.

And don’t believe that lie, you are a hopeless case. While there is life, there is hope.

God has charged you still, to be a model of Godliness in creating a family atmosphere and to be aware of moral values that needs to be pass on to your children. You are still a steward of His son. Yes His son.

I suggest that you ACTIVELY sanctify each area of your life to God that needs correcting. Admit your shortcomings and mistakes as a parent and tell it to a priest by participating in a church counseling on parenthood.

As God changes your character, the generational effects of sin in your life will begin to reversed, starting from you. And that Godly character you started, will be passed on to the next generation.

And remember this one brother:

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the FAITHFUL God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands” (Deuteronomy 7:9).

Shalom,

trdchubi

Hi Silver Sage,

Trdchubi has excellent advice. I would add the following.

It is very good that you have talked and prayed. The answer will come at the proper time.

But communication is always a two way process. We must provide for quiet time. God speaks in a soft voice. We need to slow down and sit quietly and try to not think about anything. When we are quiet and have put aside our worries, concerns, and plans, we can then ask the Holy Spirit to talk to us.

Only when we are quiet can we hear the voice of God speaking a thought to us. Listening is as important and often more important than talking and praying. Slow down. Be still. Be quiet. Invite the Holy Spirit into your heart. Listen.

Just like any conversation, there is back and forth over a period of time, perhaps days or weeks. Time to pray. Time to think. Time to be quiet and listen to God.

But then there is also time to act.

Attend Catholic Mass each Sunday. You may not be in a State of Grace to receive Holy Communion but you can approach with your arms folded over your chest and receive a blessing. You read along with the Priest and Lectors and reflect on the words within the Mass. If you can, you can also attend daily Mass and receive a blessing at every Mass.

When you are ready, approach a Priest you seem to like and say, "Hey Father, can we talk sometime?

We all need the personal one on one with a trained counselor to more fully understand our proper relationship with God. Talking with a Priest will help you considerably.

The specific sin addressed in your proof texts is following false religion. It is most likely if someone where to convert to false religion they would raise their children in that religion.
Basically, that false religion is passed on to their children by teaching them the falsehoods and by living out that religion in front of their children. It is hard for someone down the line to change from a false religon to the true religion of Jesus.

Ezekiel 18
1The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,

2What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

3As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

4Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

5But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

6And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,

7And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

8He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,

9Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.

10If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,

11And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife,

12Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

13Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

14Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,

15That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife,

16Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,

17That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

18As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.

19Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.

20The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

23Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

24But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

25Yet ye say, The way of the LORD is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

29Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the LORD is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?

30Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

31Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
