I haven’t read the posts on these thread but I will write a bit about my thoughts and understandings. After I read the posts I will add or subtract things lol.
The sexual act depends on Gods love, the standard from which it should come, is Gods love (like everything else). Never think that pleasures determine the act as good, because pleasures are for yourself. Pleasure doesn’t understand love, and worst when you are talking about Gods love. Pleasure is for yourself, Gods love is for others in a sense (works for the “welfare” of others).
In my understanding, the signature move in Gods love is sacrifice, and the commandments tell you to Love God most importantly, then love others like yourself, and then Jesus states to love others like He loves us. This means you will never do to someone you love something to hurt them. Keep in mind that when you get married, you do a vow to God saying something like you will definitely love (Gods love of course) this person. (Keep in mind that the commandments states to love everyone like yourself, but in marriage your responsibility for that one is a “little bit more”). The problem in sexual intercourse is that it is very easy to abuse, as one can receive pleasure but the other not necessarily, because erogenous zones give pleasure when stimulated, that’s how they work. (The point is you should never hurt others because of your pleasures).
When the church talks about anything it starts from the start, Gods love and it ends in Gods love, alfa and omega. God is love. So if you want to do what God wants, you need to do Gods love, because that is Gods way. So lets start to understand truly what is Gods love (i believe this is the important thing).
Every time you see “love” (how you should act toward others) in the bible, it always states to do more than you are accustomed to, but good things for the other ( where good is things that are good to God, not just to us, as our standards maybe wrong). (To do Gods way is to act Gods love, not that others act it for you)
Love and responsibility by Karol wojtyla is a great book for having an idea of what love is (it is “very close” to responsibility, but combines and integrates many more things).
Someone told me once: Life is like a race where God is the finish line (your objective), but it is so far away you can’t see it from where you begin. Gods love is the way you see the finish line (it guides you through the race). Time decides when the race finishes. The problem is that if you are realistic and pragmatic, love will not get to Gods love, because you will mark the line wherever you think it finishes. But in the race created by God, the one that states the finish line is the creator. God, He states the standards. So the way you can see the finish line is by Himself, with His help, Gods love. Because Gods love will force yourself to get to that finish line (Gods finish line), and not just to yours. When you decide where the finish line is by yourself or without understanding Gods love, you will stop running before the real goal or run without forcing yourself the way you need to get to that Real finish line, before the time is up.
Gods love will look for the other person welfare over yours by the simple act that you love the other.
I see some talk about debt, keep in mind what I wrote that love always makes us act more good toward the others, but analyze this:
“and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;” Matthew 6, 12
“It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6 63
“What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I told you, ‘You must be born from above.’” “Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony. If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.” John 3, 6-7, 11-13
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” Mathew 16, 24
“I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees.” Ezekiel 36, 26-27
