I didn’t like how the movie portrays the traditional in an unflattering way. The movie promotes modernism.
That’s what I thought when I saw it a couple of years ago. In this sense the film is a product of its age. But it is fun and the songs are cute, although I most certainly wouldn’t want that at mass. 😉

🤷 I don’t know, but I don’t particularly see your point. You didn’t like the movie and that’s fine. I did, and that’s also fine. Even the USCCB didn’t find it morally offensive. I tend to trust my bishops on most other things. Besides, I can’t think of what in that film “poked fun” at Catholic teaching, doctrine or dogma.

Plus, Maggie Smith can’t do much wrong in my book.

Man, now I want to go watch it.
I don’t care for it, plus I watched it for all of 5 minutes, my point is if the same movie was made about Mohammed, would it be seen in the same light ? We had the " Sound of Music " Father Ted " " The Exorcist " etc, seems like some people are besotted with the Catholic Church, that’s my point. And if you think i’m posting up baloney then that’s your view.

Well, Muslims don’t allow films about their prophet or any of the prophets, hence their banning “Noah” in the Middle East. Not all films about the Church are meant to denigrate her. “Sister Act” doesn’t do that. It seems that all the ladies depicted learned some lessons from their encounter with one another. The Mother Superior learned that being engaged with the world doesn’t one must be of the world. Remember that’s what Jesus told us to do–engage the world but not be of it. And “Sister Mary Clarence” learned that she is worth far more than being some hoods part time squeeze. It was a gentle morality play in that sense. Various nuns who saw the film liked it and saw nothing objectionable about it. My only quibble is that the Carmelites are comtemplatives who wouldn’t be in that kind of neighborhood to start with, but I wouldn’t expect a Hollywood screenwriter to know that. 😛 I say the more people see and hear about the Church the better. It shows that the world knows the Church is Christ’s own. If it loves Christ it loves the Church, if it hates Christ it hates the Church, as Jesus said it would be.

Thank-you Della, ive read your writings, pray for me a I will pray for you !

If you are Catholic, this is an “either you love it or you hate it” -type movies.

Personally, I liked it; especially the Hail Holy Queen scene. And there are a lot of inside jokes in that film that only Catholics will understand.

Final thought ! the Catholic Church make’s a big noise, no matter if it doesn’t want to be one !
