After learning the wonderful news about Bl. Fulton Sheen, I saw we will also have St. John Henry Newman (as others have also mentioned) and St. Mariam Thresia Chiramel Mankidiyan (1876-1926) and three other Saints. Sister Thresia was born in the Kerala state of India (Syro-Malabar Rite). She lived a deeply contemplative life since childhood, she was a stigmatic, and endured demonic attacks throughout her life. She lived also a spirit of service to the poorest of the poor similar to St. Teresa of Calcutta, and for that cause founded the Congregation of the Holy Family.

It’s been inspiring lately for me learning about the Church in south and east Asia, for some extraordinary Saints but also for the sincerity of whole communities, and I’m hoping we western Catholics might be more in touch with our whole Catholic family.
India to have a new saint: Sister Mariam Thresia,
Pope Francis announces the canonization date during the ordinary public consistory: October 13th. The Indian nun was a mystic and dedicated her life to the Lord to serve the poor and the sick.
