Wow. Thank you. You’ve given me a lot to look at.

The Trinitarians look soooo much like the FI sisters! Crazy! 🙂 I was turned down by the FI Sisters because of my medicine. They were okay with my history, but at the time, we weren’t sure if it was the correct diagnosis. Now we know…

Now, did you list those orders because they are all with the retreat apostolate? Or because they are semicloistered? I haven’t found out what all their apostolates are…
Not all of them are semi-cloistered, but they do have retreats and/or catechesis as part of their apostolate.

I know what you mean about the FI’s. When I was in contact with Sr. Maria Consolatrice, I casually asked her how they felt about young women entering their order with medication needs. She told me that it would not be permitted because they are a mendicant order and cannot afford the cost, so I told her thank you and that I was no longer interested in discerning with them. The Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal told me the same thing, so I don’t look at Franciscan orders anymore. I was very excited, however, to learn of the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word. When I read that they combined my love of both the Dominican charism and Franciscan charism, I was in heaven already. The more I learn about them, the more I love them, but I am trying not to sike myself out too much because they could also say no.

There are some beautiful Franciscan orders out there, though. I’ve always liked the Poor Clare Colettines, but I know I could not live that life because of its strict austerity. They are even more strict than the Carmelites. I also thought that the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth, who were formed by a former CFR Sister, were beautiful, but the same applies above–mendicant order.

I spent three weeks with the Visitation cloister. It’s very unique because they are the only full cloister that allows visitors in with the Sisters quarters and everything. It was great, but I learned the full cloister isn’t for me.

The heavy penances, strictness and poverty of Franciscans is too much for me.

Really, everything about the SsEW, except their jam-packed schedule, hehe, is great! I imagine the schedule grows on you after a while. Any thoughts?

Mater, well, I’ve gotten some letters of rec from medical people, and I’ve had to tweak them some, and have them alter it. My counselor made a good sugggestion to write my own paper about my health, so I’m working on that. You might consider it, too. I know that I’ll write it better than I could possibly say it.

That’s a good suggestion and one I will consider if the SsEWs need proof that I am doing well. 🙂

Daughter, any thoughts on this?

JoyfulLife,

Have you heard anything from the Sister Servants since the tornadoes? Did their convent suffer any damage?

I’ve emailed EWTN and a Fatima apostolate that is in Hanceville, where the PCPAs and the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament is located. Michael Warsaw, EWTN’s President, said that the facilities had no damage and no interruption of service during the storms, and everyone connected with the network-Friars, Sisters and lay staffers-were safe. The man at the Fatima Apostolate said that there was some damage at their building and the shrine attached to it, but he and his family were safe.

Yes. Cherie on phatmass.com said that the Sisters weren’t affected by the tornado. Praise God; He sure watched over them.

I’m sure, as with any new schedule change, that it would take some getting used to, but that is what the postulant year is all about–learning the schedule and adapting to it. I’ve never known a single order to expect that someone new will be accustomed already. However, it is good to prepare yourself by following the horarium to the best of your ability before you enter. 🙂

That’s a good point about preparing yourself. Yet, it’s hard when you are busy about different things.

Honestly, I really wouldn’t worry about it. I know it’s natural to have doubts like this pop into your head (I do from time to time), but don’t let the worry fester. Try to focus on the fact that they are going to work with you in order to help you grow in the community. That’s what postulant directors and novice mistresses are for. When I was trying out life in my former community, my Superior assigned the Postulant Mistress to me even though I wasn’t a postulant because she wanted me to have an experienced companion to guide me through religious life. Even though it didn’t work out in that community, I was glad to have someone there to help me out. The novice mistress was incredible too! 🙂

It was brought to my attention that nasty little things can happen with Sisters every single day, and that this is common in the life. Yet, Lilla said she was sooo happy there and would tear with joy. I guess you just learn to get over those things fast, and that the loving, joyful way of the Sisters overcomes the little things? I know that personally, I’m very gentle and sensitive, and so I get hurt really easily, so this would be tough for me…

You have to remember, too, that just because they are Sisters doesn’t mean that they are no less sinners. Women become Sisters and try to work on themselves so as to conform themselves to Christ as best they can, but they can fall just like we do. I don’t know what you mean about “nasty little things” but a convent can have it’s burdens just like any household. There will always be conflicts of interest, but the Sisters work to clarify any issue. 🙂

The Alma Sisters and the Pauline Sisters still haven’t replied. I hope they get back to me…

Neato! She looks like a very interesting person–Sr. Louise Marie! 🙂
She sure does!

I’m still nervous about what they’ll say regarding my health. I’m still waiting for my Priest and someone else to write up letters for me; they’ve been so busy that they haven’t gotten around to it yet. :o I got all my medical people to write up letters months ago, so that’s all set! 👍

How are you doing? I came down with a sore throat this morning and I’ve been somewhat dizzy. So, I’m just taking it easy, lounging around. I’m hoping to get looked at in case it’s strep throat.

I’m doing well. I haven’t been discerning in about two months because I feel the call to concentrate on finishing school. I’m not sure I want to discern anymore because I’ve been feeling the stronger pull to marriage instead. I am not ruling out religious life completely, though. 🙂
