I’m thinking of wearing skirts (with respectable tops) or dresses
to Church and I WILL be about the only lady who does 😃 .

I’m worried there is quite an amount of liberized ladies there but they are not radical feminists.

I will stand out like a purple thumb.

The pendulum has swung so far since I was in Church so many years ago, but I don’t want to lose my independance?

Anyone in this dillemma? :confused:

If I was in yer parish I’d go to mass with ye and I’d wear me kilt just for fun. 😛

I have a friend who wears skirts all of the time because she does not like pants.

If you are a skirty/dressy woman, then be that. 🙂 And who knows, you may just be the woman that the other women see in skirts/dresses and they start wearing them too.

Be yourself while being with God. That is all that matters.
 
Wow, that’s surprising to hear, that you would stand out. I live in California, and I wear a skirt to Mass every week (and to work every day). I certainly don’t stand out at all. In fact, I’d say at least half of the women come to church in a skirt or a dress.
 
I attend the 4pm Mass on Saturdays (my husband works Sunday mornings so I’m unable to attend then). Most people at this Mass wear jeans and t-shirts, and even shorts during the summer.

I like to wear khakis and a nice blouse or sweater, and that even seems to be “dresed-up” for Mass compared to those around me.

However, I’m comfortable wearing khakis and I try not to let what others are wearing bother me or make me feel like I’m over-dressing.

I guess my point is that if you feel the need to wear dresses and skirts to Mass, then you should be comfortable in doing so. Perhaps this is a special way of honoring the Lord that He has called you to.

I was going to a Vigil Mass at another parish besides my own after being at a picnic. I planned for Mass by bringing a change of clothes. I got to the church early, went into the restroom and changed from t-shirt and shorts to nice top and khakis. Then I took the shorts and t-shirt to the car and went into the church for Mass. Apparently it was much trouble for nothing, as most of the people were wearing t-shirts and shorts. However, I would do it again, out of respect for the Lord. Do not worry about what the other people are wearing.
 
Don’t worry about it. I see everything from jeans to pants to skirts to prom dresses at our parish. Who knows–you may start a new trend.

There were pipers from the police pipe band at Mass at my parish once. They wore navy blue kilts the colour of their uniforms. They had the sporrans, the socks and the special shoes for wearing with kilts.
 
I attend a campus parish, and I’m one of a select few ladies that wear modest skirts a large percentage of the time. (There are quite a few high school and college aged girls there with tiny mini-skirts on :eek: ) Lots of the little girls wear dresses to church and their moms are usually in nice slacks or skirts themselves. I think (and hope and pray) there’s beginning to be a trend back towards dressing nicely for church. I’ll occasionally wear dressy slacks or capris in the summer, but my Inner Baptist 😉 usually prompts me to wear a dress or a skirt. I never have felt comfortable wearing jeans or shorts to church.
 
Well I may try a skort if everyone remembers what that is.

Or a skirt which will come down to my ankle because I am in short stature. 👍 I can do it.

You go, Girl! Wear that skirt. My parish has people wearing all kinds of things, some appropriate, some not so much. If you were a fella wanting to wear a skirt, I say, “Think again.”

Way back in 1971, I got tossed out of the library at St. Louis University for wearing culottes. They were part of a beautiful suit, and by far the most expensive outfit I had, but the guard threw me right out the front door for wearing them. Times have changed.

:rotfl: Of course I’m a girl silly. Yes times have changed in a lot of ways. :rolleyes: some not so good. D.
 
Go for it!!! 👍 I too felt pulled to wearing skirts and dresses in church as a sign of respect. A few years ago I switched to only skirts and dresses and got rid of the pants entirely. I, of course, keeps some sweats for around the house… and I don’t work-out in a dress but but if I’m leaving the house and I’m not going for a run, I’m in a skirt.

The trick is finding casual skirts for everyday, believe me they don’t stand out. I noticed you enjoy sewing in your profile… you have a great advantage in making the change because you can make modest skirts and dresses to suit you year round. Its very hard to find warm skirts in the winter!

Wow. After what students wore in the 60’s, I’m surprised. Even in 1971, what you wore was tame compared to many fashions of the day.
