Finding a romantic match isn’t easy. At least, that is what I hear at this site.

It is hard to meet people, Finding quality dates is a challenge. Partners won’t commit.

The first step is to meet people. To do that, we need to present ourselves in the best possible light.

Folks with poor grooming and unattractive clothing styles are not at their best.

I am a guy, and I notice women; what they look like and what they wear.

Women who dress well, wearing skirts and heels, always catch my attention. They are so much more attractive than those in jeans and tennis shoes.

Clothing and style are superficial, yes, but they make a first impression, which is important.

The women who look put together and well appointed get the positive attention of men.

So many of the young women I see, present themselves poorly. By dressing well, they could change that.

Not sure the point of your thread. Do you wish to discuss something? Or just make a statement?

“Women who dress well, wearing skirts and heels, always catch my attention. They are so much more attractive than those in jeans and tennis shoes.”

You are entitled to you opinion.

“Clothing and style are superficial, yes, but they make a first impression, which is important.”

If they are so superficial, why would their impression matter to you then?

“The women who look put together and well appointed get the positive attention of men.”

Of the men that are superficial enough to go solely on what a woman is wearing…yes.

I think I get what Magickman is saying. He acknowledged that what a woman wears is just on the surface, but how we choose to present ourselves says something about what’s inside. Am I correct?

I agree. I am in my 40s and not looking for anyone, but whenever I see young men with stubble and scruffy hair, wearing cargo shorts and flipflops, I think, yuck, I’m glad I’m not a young woman out looking for a husband. Heck, most of the men my own age don’t look much better.

Someone who looks slovenly is sending out the message that they don’t care about themselves - so why should they care about anyone else?

And if that is not what they are saying - well, that is what it looks like to (at least some) others.

I agree with you 100% Magickman. I think your post is even a bit of an understatement. Women that wear jeans 24/7, even in church, are a huge turn off for me.

Very few people know how to dress decently, Men or Women. I’ve just started clueing into this a few months ago. I was actually just thinking of wearing my suit to Church and see what people do…i’m sure a few might drop dead because they’ve never seen such a well dressed person in there for years.

Go for it, and set an example! My son (20) wears a suit and tie to church, as does another young man who usually sits a few pews ahead of us every week. They are without a doubt the best-dressed young men in church. 👍

Like it or not… Clothing and grooming are a “Billboard”. Most of our youth don’t understand that… A young girl may dress like a tramp, not knowing it, then wonder:confused: why she is getting the wrong kind of attention…

A Billboard is a form of advertising… Dress modest and clean will attract modest and clean… Dress like a lady, will usually attract a gentleman…

Reminds me of the High School story of a young couple who walked together from class to class. The young man would never open doors for his girl friend who always wore jeans or pants. Then one day he started opening doors for a new girl in school who always wore a dress or a skirt & blouse. When his girl friend asked why he opened the doors for the other girl, his answer was “She’s a lady”

We are to project God into the World through our Lives, our Thoughts and Actions.
Clothing is a part of this. Whether in Jeans or Skirt, Flats or heels, Bouse or T-shirt, Straight or Permed hair etc. All should be for the Love and Glory of God.

As the person dressing, we should ask ourselves what image we wish to project and how that image glorifies God? Am I glorifying Flesh or Spirit?

As the looking, we should ask ourselves what am I looking at and why is it attractive or not attractive? Am I looking at the Flesh or the Spirit?

Yes Clothing makes a first impression, and that first impression can tell much, not only about the wearer, but the “looker” as well.

Peace
James

My wife has permanent nerve damage in her toes from wearing high heels for many years, due to the mandatory dress code at her retail sales job. I think it would be nice if high heels were placed in the same category as cigarettes, with mandatory health warnings and public service announcements.

I wear jeans and sweat shirts- and I am every bit a lady when I do. However, I do find that I perceive myself differently in a skirt. I am more aware of my femininity. I experience myself as uncomfortable in most heels, thus I avoid them. I am not looking for a husband, and this has nothing to do with my choice in clothing. Yet, it is a positive thing for me to be aware of the gift of my womanhood- not so much in the superficial but with its deeper meanings.

as the above poster said, high heels are really bad. 90% of them are grosly uncomfortable, even to those who have feet who can fit into them. They cause damage to ligaments and other parts of the ankle, contribute to back pain and other spinal problems.

I’m only 5’4" but I have HUGE feet. (size 11 or 12) I would have to pay disgusting amounts of money for heels. It would be being an awful steward. I have long feet doing extremely long toes, making high heels that are my size painful.

About skirts. Skirts are hard to find and often not very comfortable or warm. I will wear skirts in the summer but not in the winter. I also have to do some physical work and skirts just don’t work.

Even though you prefer the look, you do need to look deeper…I’ve known more prissy b*ches in skirts than you’d think. The clothing may be an outward sign but the core can still be rotten.

*Elizabeth, that is a great way of putting things. I had worn capris and jeans with tees for a long time, because I have to wear suits, etc for work. So, to dress down when at home, was what I yearned for. But, you know, over the past few months, I have been glossing over some old photos of my mother, God rest her soul, she died when I was 10. In these photos, she was dressed in a pretty floral skirt, with a simple top. She wasn’t wearing heels in all pics, she was so tall, as it was, she didn’t need heels. lol Like me. 😊 That said, in honor of my mom, (not sure if this sounds odd), I decided to begin following in her footsteps. I am married, and my husband notices my ‘new look.’ He always said nice things about my appearance before this, but now. he feels like we are on a holiday, or something. lol I said, I just like wearing skirts now. I bought a few inexpensive skirts at Target, and some tees, and it’s amazing how much more feminine I feel, and look. I don’t judge people on how they look, but as humans, I think we make immediate ‘judgements’ when we see people…almost subconsciously.

When we interview people, or we are on an interview ourselves, someone is sizing you up, on how you are ‘put together.’ If you look wrinkled, and unmatching…the potential employer might think you don’t care. Now, we don’t have to be dressed up all the time, but there’s something about wearing a skirt, that makes me feel put together, and attractive to my husband. I also feel closer to my mom, in some odd way.

So, to the OP…I see where you are coming from. But, it’s of course more important, what is on the inside. I was watching this show, ugh, I can’t think of the name, but it’s a show that talks about how we dress is actually a reflection of what we’re feeling inside. On the days, that I don’t put much effort, maybe I’m feeling lazy or down that day…who knows. I thought that was interesting, what this ‘fashion designer’ had to say.

In glossing over those old pics of my mom and dad, what I noted was how everyone seemed to be dressed up a lot! My mom wore white gloves to mass, my dad always had nice chinos on with a pressed shirt, just hanging around the house. I remember them, for the short time I had with them, and they were always dressed nicely. My mom would say…‘you never know when someone might pop over for a cup of coffee.’ :o I kind of like those looks of yesteryear…and it is nice to see those styles coming back.

ALL OF THIS SAID, a woman could be wearing shorts and a tee, and still carry herself in the most feminine way. I think what you’re saying OP, is just what you personally find attractive, and how maybe we should take more notice to the ‘image’ we want to present to others. If we want people to think we are put together, but we look like we rolled out of bed…then, the two don’t match. I get what you’re saying. Just don’t let it be the only yardstick for how you measure a woman’s femininity. Remember, Katherine Hepburn was one of the first to wear pants in Hollywood…and she was quite the beautiful icon of femininity. 😉

Interesting post…I’ll be interested to see the replies you receive. :)*

I guess if I was looking I would dress up to shine, but with five kids my best (outside of church) is usually jeans or sweats, tennis shoes and an old clean shirt (no stains) I wear a head covering but under it my hair is washed and clean.

In Church I wear a dress as do my girls, Flats ( I am uncomfurtable in heals not to mention they are bad for woman)

My cloths may be old but they are clean. If someone wants to judge me on my cloths then in my mind let them judge away! I know who I am and the friends I make are friends I have for years and years. I worry about what is inside more than I worry about what fashion I am wearing or if my makeup is just so.

of course I have seen people who smell strongly of BO and are filthy ( not the childrens revenge on momma filthy) and still I wonder if they have access to a shower but I do not assume on thier person.

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover, Of course I have never been accused of being mainstream anyway:D

I agree with MM-
I am not single but a married mother of four. I fall into the slovenly category and have been taking great pains to put more effort in my appearance. Not becuase I want to attract attention, but to show respect for myself- and yes, to look nice for DH who is probly sick of seeing me in the same stuff everyday:o.
Not too long ago I was picking up my kids at a neighbors house, the mom complemented me on how nice I looked and said something about not takeing the time to look nice, and I made a remark about wanting to look nice for DH. She said oh thats sweet- then another mom piped up and said something like " My husband doesnt care what I look like- what you see is what you get!" as if she were offended by my statement. I thought that was a strange reaction!
It is just so easy to fall into bad habits

I agree completely with this. I am trying to teach my two sons this. My younger son (15) is getting it, he is taking care in his appearance. My older son (17) is a different story however, he’s just not there yet, but hopefully soon he will take a clue from his younger brother, lol.😃

*lol, I giggled reading that. My son is 16…and he takes care to how he looks when he goes to school…but we have to get on him sometimes. 😊 *

I do like to wear skirts, but have switched to pants on work days since I have started riding my bike to work. Since yesterday was Sunday, I wore a skirt. My boyfriend ended up needing my help with changing the fuel filter on his car, since it was something where small hands could get in there better. I was thinking, as cars were driving by, that it probably looked funny to see someone in a skirt working on a car.

A guy’s perspective:
One day in Mass it hit me: I was approaching my Creator, my Lord God to receive Him in Holy Communion. Out of humble submission to the King of Kings, I should dress my best to receive him. So I started wearing a tie and jacket. Yet outside of Mass (other than work) I would dress pretty sloppily. Then I realized that Jesus created all of us, and I should show some respect for people I meet by not dressing like a slob. So, unless I am working in the yard, I try to wear nice casual clothes when not at Mass or work.

We show respect for others by caring about our appearance.

lol, Glad to know someone else is in the same boat.
*It’s funny, because when he has a place to go, he takes the time…but if he’s hanging around playing video games…I have to ask…um, when was the last time you showered, honey? lol He just gives me this look------>> 😊 lol

My dd does not need to be told to shower. Honestly! :D*
