A guy’s perspective:
One day in Mass it hit me: I was approaching my Creator, my Lord God to receive Him in Holy Communion. Out of humble submission to the King of Kings, I should dress my best to receive him. So I started wearing a tie and jacket. Yet outside of Mass (other than work) I would dress pretty sloppily. Then I realized that Jesus created all of us, and I should show some respect for people I meet by not dressing like a slob. So, unless I am working in the yard, I try to wear nice casual clothes when not at Mass or work.

We show respect for others by caring about our appearance.
*That’s a humbling and beautiful way to look at this. :o God bless you. *

It’s funny, because when he has a place to go, he takes the time…but if he’s hanging around playing video games…I have to ask…um, when was the last time you showered, honey? lol He just gives me this look------>> 😊 lol

My dd does not need to be told to shower. Honestly! 😃
lol, that’s the way it is with my sons. I am always asking my 17 year old when he has last showered, but my 15 year old takes that responsibility upon himself.

My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality. For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in; and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, “Sit here in a good place”; and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”; haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts? Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called? However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well. But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom. For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
~James 2:1-13~
You folks here need to be careful not to cross the line from preference to presumption, and I can’t tell the difference in some of your comments.

BTW, my wife was in the Army when I met her, and everyday, I got to see her at her absolute worst in the morning. I loved her anyways. I practice what I preach.

Ragged clothes and sandals?! Why is that a problem at Mass? It sounds like the signature garment of a group we all know. They said the same things about him too.

When I have to go somewhere important (like work, church, etc.) I dress up, do my makeup, flat iron my hair, and all the other fun girl stuff. But if I need to run a quick errand, I’m in my flip flops and sweats. Like I need to impress the clerk at the grocery store. 😃

I hear ya…well, not sweats, I live in FL. 😃

I have a couple pairs of the best pants EVER. They look so dressy, but they are so comfortable. They were in the PJ section of Old Navy. 😃 I always get compliments on them at work.

My wife has permanent nerve damage in her toes from wearing high heels for many years, due to the mandatory dress code at her retail sales job. I think it would be nice if high heels were placed in the same category as cigarettes, with mandatory health warnings and public service announcements.
Absolutely! I was going to post my objections to heels, but your post does it so much more eloquently.

Why would any woman want to deform her feet and legs, throw her body out of balance, and mince around like cows on hooves instead of walking tall and strong and secure on the entire foot?

Short heels (one inch) are better, although they still throw the entire body off balance and force a women to fight to stay upright. Yuck.

MEN don’t wear heels, do they? (Some men’s boots have heels, but they’re also very chunky and solid). So why do women continue to degrade themselves and wear shoes that make them helpless and fragile?

Because it attracts men. You don’t hear men saying “man, she looks hot in her flats” 🙂 At 28, I have to do what it takes to attract SOMEONE. Plus, I feel more confident in heels, like I can take over the world.
Filed under: Why women wear push-up bras, short skirts, and don’t reveal they like Monty Python

Coming from a woman’s perspective, I don’t care if a man is wearing jeans and a tshirt vs. a suit (provided the clothing is clean and in good condition).

An attractive man who works out is going to outcompete an average/flabby guy no matter what he’s wearing.

And I daresay the guys who are touting heels and skirts would prefer an attractive woman in jeans and sneakers over an average one in heels and skirt. (And if they see an attractive woman, I doubt they’re gonna care what she’s wearing.)

That said, what’s on the inside is very important too.

Some heels are actually very comfortable. The trick is to try many different styles on until you find one that works for you.

My BF actually likes me in a skirt and flats. That is his preference.

I am looking and talking about what I wear to church and elsewhere, not others. If the best I have is ragged clothes and sandals, that is great. If, however, I have a nice shirt and tie and maybe a decent looking sports coat, and this is the nicest clothes I have… then I would argue that this is what I should wear to church… because I will be honoring my Creator, Lord and God, Jesus Christ, by giving Him the very best of myself.

A male friend of mine was always very attracted to girls in jeans, a pony tail, and a baseball cap. (A shirt too but that wasn’t an important part of the outfit in his view.) The reason, he said, was that they looked relaxed, easy to get along with, and like they wouldn’t be afraid to pitch in.

Clothes can say something about you, but I don’t think it’s quite as simple as heels and a skirt is the most attractive.

My friend also seemed to always be attracted to girls who were "on the heavy side. It’s nice that people find different things beautiful.

Me and heels are a disaster lol. I can barely walk in the 1 inch ones! And I donlt wear dresses or skirts unless I have too. Like if I am going to a funeral or wedding or something else. I think my dislike of dresses comes from the fact that when I was younger my mom forced me to wear them to church and most of my cousins birthday parties. And it made it really hard to run around and play with my cousins when your worried about ripping a dress or ruining your pretty shoes. Besides I donlt go anywhere but work and home 99% of the time and I work in a grocery store where pants and a work shirt are the standard attire. And unless you want a broken ankle you donlt wear heels.

My fiance loves me in jeans and a t-shirt and prefers me that way. He also likes me better without makeup. Why? Because both of us would rather be in the woods than anywhere else. He also loves when I wear sandals and a broom skirt ( long flowing granola kind of skirts). It’s his favorite and they are so comfortable so I wear them quite often.

My job doesn’t necessarily require me to wear heels (business causal is a requirement), but I love to wear them. They make me feel more feminine, my legs look longer, etc. As for skirts/dresses, I couldn’t live without them. Once again, it simply makes me feel more feminine. The field I’m in requires a good first impression, for me, heels and a skirt (all tasteful) scream good first impression.

When I’m not at work it’s jeans and a t-shirt with a pair of Vans. 😉

There is another thing with women’s clothing. It seems that women will pay extra, to purchase clothing that is scuffed, ripped, and torn, when it is brand new.

I don’t understand that. When articles of my own clothing start to look that way, I don’t wear them. I throw them out.

Am I missing something?

lol It’s called ‘the look.’ 🤷 I bought my dd a pair of tattered jeans…for school this year. Ripped in the one knee. I said, we could buy a pair of cheaper jeans and just rip the knee open if you like. lol Her reply–"Mooom. Wouldn’t be the saaaame.’’

🤷

I always dress for church…skirt or dress…

I have to be careful about the heels tho…I’ve torn tendons in my foot and can only wear them for awhile…

Personally I just wouldn’t be comfortable in jeans at Mass. But that’s my preference. Maybe all my years of singing in churches have led me to feel more at home dressed that way:yup:

Finding a romantic match isn’t easy. At least, that is what I hear at this site.

It is hard to meet people, Finding quality dates is a challenge. Partners won’t commit.

The first step is to meet people. To do that, we need to present ourselves in the best possible light.

Folks with poor grooming and unattractive clothing styles are not at their best.

I am a guy, and I notice women; what they look like and what they wear.

Women who dress well, wearing skirts and heels, always catch my attention. They are so much more attractive than those in jeans and tennis shoes.

Clothing and style are superficial, yes, but they make a first impression, which is important.

The women who look put together and well appointed get the positive attention of men.

So many of the young women I see, present themselves poorly. By dressing well, they could change that.
Well, it seems silly to wear skirts and heels on the hiking trail, so I guess that means I’m not your type! I find wearing heels wrecks my feet and keeps me from doing the things I love best, such as hiking up mountains for miles and miles. So you can keep your heely women while I search for a mountain man…

Ailina made a good point about fashionable skirts and high heels not being appropriate attire for all people or all occasions.

I will have to admit she is right.

Even I do not wear my high heeled dancing shoes for landscaping work or cross country hiking.
