Anyone see it yet? I caught it Friday night and, seeing as it’s my first Bond movie (strange, I know, for someone living in the first world) I didn’t approach it as critically as some people have. That said, I really enjoyed it and I’m surprised that I actually understood some of the references to past Bond movies; that’s a testament to how much it’s ingrained itself in culture. The angle of cyberterrorism was well appreciated and I think Bardem had a pretty memorable performance as Silva. I liked the balance of story and action, which I find hard to balance in contemporary movies, as well as the updating of the franchise for the 21st century.
As an aside, can anyone confirm my suspicion that the chapel on the Skyfall grounds (and, by extension, the Bond lineage) was Catholic? Kincaide says that the priesthole was built around the Reformation era and, being in Scotland, it would make sense to protect the clergy in that time (if my understanding of the times is correct). In addition, the chapel’s altar faces the wall, there’s a partition between the altar and the congregation, and there are three steps before the altar.
