Slamming Mother Theresa

In a non-Catholic forum in which I participate, there are a couple of threads going in which it is being claimed Mother Theresa was possessed (you may recall she had an exorcism while in the hospital) and that her order has taken in millions of dollars and not spent them on the poor (this is based on Dr. Aroup Chatterjee’s book and story that apparently ran in Stern magazine in 1998 that seems to be all over the internet).

Anyone have any personal experience with Mother Theresa and her order or know of any neutral resources on the web that might be useful. I don’t expect the posters to change their mind, but there may be some readers that would be interested.

If you think it worthwhile to join the fun, I will post the name of the site.

:confused: I didn’t know that she had an exorcism while in the hospital. What on earth happened? Many many Saints have been tormented by demons.

What is she supposed to have spent the money that she took in? Surely it wasn’t on herself because she was dedicated to poverty.

Mother Teresa seems to be getting more than her fair share of vicious attacks lately:

I think it goes with the territory. Consider the source where these attacks are coming from. Aside from the fact that they are cowardly in attacking a person who is dead and can’t rebut them in any way (as if Mother Teresa would lower herself to dignify their slander with a response), the wanton and the wicked have always hated and felt threatened by the good. A couple of Scriptures come to mind:
Wisdom 2:6-24
6 Come, therefore, let us enjoy the good things that are real, and use the freshness of creation avidly.
7 Let us have our fill of costly wine and perfumes, and let no springtime blossom pass us by;
8 let us crown ourselves with rosebuds ere they wither.
9 Let no meadow be free from our wantonness; everywhere let us leave tokens of our rejoicing, for this our portion is, and this our lot.
10 Let us oppress the needy just man; let us neither spare the widow nor revere the old man for his hair grown white with time.
11 But let our strength be our norm of justice; for weakness proves itself useless.

I do not myself have any direct experience with Mother Teresa, but a priest in our diocese whom I knew is from India and used to work with her. I never heard anything from him indicating that there was anything amiss about her.

That is absurd.

She has to be one of the premier Saints of the Church because of her faith in Christ, and the way she spent her life.
 
If it wasn’t Mother Theresa, it would be someone else. She is beloved by Catholics and respected by nearly all so the usual suspects are determined to put a seed of doubt or worse in every mind they can.
 
This was one of the most unsettling stories I have heard recently. This lady, who had a working, living, sanctifying relationship with Christ, has been attacked in a most vehemented way.

Sister Theresa’s legacy is being attacked only because of what she stood for and and the life she gave to the world. Satan only attacks those that he and his kind are threatened by. This will only prove to strengthen the cause for her Sainthood. This will only strengthen those who call on our Blessed Sister Theresa for prayer. Satan loses again! John

We can’t really be surprised she is being attacked, can we?
 
All you have to do is switch the name M-T to Yasar Arrafat and you’d have a pretty acccurate documentary
 
It sounds to me as though she might have been experiencing obsession, not possession.

Mother Theresa is attacked for one and only one reason-she was firmly opposed to Abortion. Since to the Left abortion is the most holy of sacraments she is guilty, in their minds , of blasphemy and must be denigrated at all costs.

Mother Theresa is attacked for one and only one reason-she was firmly opposed to Abortion. Since to the Left abortion is the most holy of sacraments she is guilty, in their minds , of blasphemy and must be denigrated at all costs.

You are probably correct in your assumption. How sad. Don’t these people see all the good that she did during her life and how all she ever spoke of was love, forgivness, helping others and the value of human life.

You don’t have to be considered a paranoid freak to be careful about ANYTHING CNN or ABC reports. I question it all. In fact, if they reported to me that the sky was blue I would run to the window to verify that. 😉
