Mine sat on the floor and cooked like crazy with all the pans and wooden spoons. I bought them lots of fisher price plastic veggies and play hambergers and they had a blast “cooking” them.

As “St Francis” (the member not the actual saint 😉 ) said make sure baby couldn’t get her head (or hand or foot) stuck in them. Not only for your baby’s safety, but if you had to cut the paneling to free her that will cost very heavily when you move out.

As a fellow apartment dweller I know rent isn’t cheap. I’d say if at all possible go with the older model. $150 is a lot of money anyways but for a family with a baby that could cover diapers and or formula costs!

As “Pianistclare” mentioned, baby’s LOVE banging pots and pans or stacking and restacking various Tupperware or plastic bowls. If you want her out of the kitchen entirely while you’re cooking, then a foldable playpen is the best bet I’d think.

That’s OK. Do you think they’re a bad idea for a family with a soon-to-be toddler? The apartments without it are $150 more per month
There are probably more upgrades than just that - you need to talk to the renter.

Well, it’s that and new kitchen cabinets and a new countertop. Which don’t make much of a difference to me, since we’ve been living in an unrenovated apartment. The only difference that matters to me is the louver wall cutting off the view of much of the living area. In my current (horrifically tiny) kitchen, I can see almost the entire apartment, aside from the hallway, which has been gated off.

I guess it doesn’t matter after all. When we emailed to express interest in the cheaper apartment, the rate listed on the website was raised to match the others. So if it was unrenovated, it doesn’t make any sense to choose it above a renovated one at this point.

Actually, now that they raised the price, it only makes sense to choose a 1br over a 2br if we’re going to stay in it for three years because of the various moving costs. And since we’re hoping to start ttc #2 next year…
