So it is 1 am now and I am really really scared.

I have sleep paralysis which means I cannot move because my brain is dreaming still this not being able to move causes panick and last time I saw light flashes and heard a shriek in my ear as if something was in my room something evil.

I am so afraid to sleep it’s 1 am here please talk to me if you can show some support my parents are on a vacation and I have no one else to talk to.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon me in this time
of my weakness and unrest.

Teach my searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for me is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace –
which this world cannot give
  • be always with me.
And, help me to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for me!
    Amen.

Don’t be afraid. It’s nothing evil. It just happened to me the other night and I felt like I was being shocked. And I kept hearing whispering in my ear. I just tried to relax. And when I woke up I shifted positions in bed by turning the opposite way. Don’t ask me why this works to get rid of nightmares, but my mom taught me this. I am 50 now and it still works. God bless you 🙂

I’m sure you know, but I just want to remind you that Catholicism does not require that we instantly jump to demonic explanations for issues, but, rather, the opposite; we should exhaust any medical reasons for things first. I would be very skeptical that this is any sort of evil presence. Hail Holy Queen said.

With evil I do not mean daemonic. Read up on sleep paralysis many people feel an evil, ominous presence. I do call it sleep paralysis in my topic. If I didn’t go from there I would have said ‘demonic attack’ please go and ask yourself if sleep paralysis is something religious or a psychological event. It is the second but a hallucination that holds you down so you cannot move and makes noise is evil alright? Not the king of thing you wanna have near your bed.

You’re right; I apologize. I’ll continue to pray for you to get some sleep.

Sleep paralysis is not demonic nor mysterious. It’s a normal misfiring of body processes.

We **all **sleep paralyzed, because our the muscle tone is released from our bodies when we fall asleep. (The “falling sensation” some people get when this occurs, due to the sense of pressure leaving our limbs, is why we call it "falling" asleep.)

Our minds do this so we don’t move around and possibly bash our bodies around while dreaming, and normally, we never know it, because our muscles wake up before our heads do. But if the mind wakes up first, we get “sleep paralysis.”

If it happens to you again, go back to sleep, your body will then wake up normally.

God Bless and ICXC NIKA

I get this too, usually if I sleep during the day. It’s very freaky.

I just try to remind myself that I’m ok, though my brain doesn’t work well. However, it helps when I get panicky.

Try saying the St. Michael prayer and the rosary. Ask for your guardian angel to help you.

I will pray for you my friend. Something similar happened to me once.:gopray:

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
And do thou oh Prince of the Heavenly Host
By the divine power of God
Thrust into Hell Satan and all of the evil spirits
Who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Now I have never experienced sleep paralysis, nor am I a doctor; However, it seems to me that what you probably experienced while in sleep paralysis is just you being in a half dreaming half awake state. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that you were probably slipping back into full dream mode.

I could be wrong, but I doubt it is demonic. If it makes you feel better, why not take some Holy Water from the church to your house?
