Very funny!
I’ve gotten that email several times, too! Try Googling it or even check it out on Snopes.
  1. who keeps anancondas as pets AND lets them roam? Anacondas as a whole are not your compliant little snake.
  2. who sleeps with their snake in bed?
  3. what snake would sleep on top of the bed? (they are not dogs or cats)
  4. what snake would intentionally starve itself?
  5. what responsible owner would allow the snake to roam all over the house? snake poop stinks.
  6. any snake owner I’ve known has either a dedicated room or cage with heat lamps/stones, water, etc.
Nope, not believing a word of it. Sorry. Never happened.
You don’t have to believe me, but its true all the same. The girl is 20 years old, she lives in Miami, she is best friends with my neice. I saw a picture of the now dead snake and I spoke to the girl’s mother about it. 🤷

Uh, sure…

then why did I get the same email and why is it discussed on snopes?😉

I think niece, friend and mom are having some fun with you.

Anyone who knows anything about snakes, and in particular about anacondas, knows you don’t sleep with them at the foot of your bed.

I think you may be right. I once had a rare opportunity to watch an anaconda eating a rabbit (which takes a very long time), and there’s absolutely no way this snake could fit into a human bed. It was 40 FEET LONG. So anyone keeping an anaconda large enough to swallow bunnies is most likely not cozying up to it at night.

Gosh, I’m so gullible. 😊

I could see maybe if someone is single and living alone letting there dog sleep on or by the bed so if someone broke in the dog couldn’t protect him or her. Personally I have never had a dog that would let me go to sleep or stay on the bed lol.

We had several dogs through my childhood and some, the smaller breeds, sometimes slept in our beds. In the early years of our marriage we had 2 cats they sometimes slept in our bed too. Once we had a pet rat who used to go curl up in bed with our daughter.

While I’ll agree that it’s not the most hygienic habit, the worst they ever shared with us was fleas. Today, I probably wouldn’t allow it – but then I don’t happen to have a pet at the moment; were I to acquire one I don’t doubt that the no pets in bed rule would soon be out the window. Those fuzz balls tend to wrap us around their little paws in a very short time.
My kids are almost grown…my maternal need was clawing at me and our little dog fills that up. Yes, he sleeps in our bed but gratefully he doesn’t shed (Maltipoo)…just the thought of him being outside, cold and dirty, is more than I want to worry about…and no fleas!!!

NO animal will intentionally starve itself to ‘eat a bigger meal later.’ They simply don’t have the higher thought functions to plan things like that. And no, it’s not instinct at work either.

My lilac point siamese never asked if he could sleep at my feet let alone be adopted when he was just a kitten! He just does!

I keep a fresh bath towel on the bed exactly where I know he likes to sleep. This I change every two days or as needed. Basically - he gets clean sheets as often as I do.

Blaskoman - I don’t look at kitty as being humanlike. Kitty is a nice cat - a creature made by God and I’ll treat him kindly as long as he lives with me. I actually often give thanks to God for kitty’s loveliness and company.
My pets love me when I am at my most unloveable!

It is always the friend of a non-immediate family relative…

I get the picture–alot of you love your pets. that’s all good and well. My focus was to understand why pet owners show inordinate care and affection for their pets (eg, sleeping with them, kissing your dog on the lips, etc). Many need the companionship of a pet and from many posts here, there is an affirmation that pets provide much joy.

also, many posters claim that their pets will be with them in Heaven and that their pets show love and emmotion. I think those sentiments are grossly misguided and simply wrong. Animals are incapable of offending their Creator, incapable of sin. Conversely, animals are incapable of performing works of charity, or exhibiting love. Jesus did not die on the Cross to save animals from sin and thereby allow them to rise on the last day. Animals will not be judged after their deaths. Therefore, animals will not be in Heaven (or Hell for that matter). The life force of an animal’s soul is forever extinguished after its death…Animals act on instinct and cannot rationalize (they cannot plan what they will do tomorrow). Your pets do not love their masters. Dogs and cats act in a manner which seeks to satify their appetites and the drive of their instinctual natures.

Can you point out the posts where people claimed their pet would be with them in Heaven?

Conversely, can you show where it is taught that there will be no animals in Heaven?

Animals do show love. It’s not the highest form of love, but it’s still higher than some humans are capable of: they show attachment, empathy and the ability to give up important things to gain a bond. Dogs and cats routinely go hungry for their offspring. Dogs choose friends, human and canine, and risk their lives protecting them, let them eat and go through doors first, and lick them when they are frozen until they revive. Cats are well known for their healing. They sense where a pain is, probably by feeling the heat, place a paw near but not on the pain, and purr in a lower register than their normal purr until the pain goes away. This is something they need for their young but will do for their owners. I have had a terrible pain in my tooth healed temporarily by a cat’s purr-masage. It’s a natural use of the purr-vibration to reduce inflammation and it works on many kinds of pain. Why would they do that for someone who is obviously not a kitten unless they love you? Cats will die for their kittens. They love them. They may not be willing to die for a human but that is no reason to think they don’t love us. It’s just a different level of love. They are willing to put themselves out (so to speak) for a beloved human, just not usually all the way to the bitter end. That’s good enough for me, because unlike humans, cats are simple at heart. I know perfectly well that’s because they lack reason. I don’t mind. Kitty love is innocent in the sense of having no idea a friend might be false. They can’t betray you because they don’t know betrayal is possible.

I have done that, though. 😃

Wow! 56lbs! You must be WARM 🙂 I now have two dogs (both mini Dachshunds - nice and compact) and they are both in the bed. The younger one always goes to the end, but the older one has to be touching my leg at all times during the night! I don’t mind b/c I love them both to pieces 🙂

Ah. Is that a Dachshund? I once read in a book describing various dog breeds that dachshunds are notoriously difficult to keep off of the bed and that they prefer to sleep under the covers, “which by dachshund lovers is considered one of the finer points of the breed.”

😃

strng: you state…“Animals do show love. It’s not the highest form of love, but it’s still higher than some humans are capable of.” after that first statement, anything else that followed I took with a grain of salt.

I don’t see why. Are you aware that some people don’t love?

LOL! Yes, she’s our little mini Dachshund (one of the two).

I think it’s how you raise them - especially since neither of them can actually jump high enough to get on a bed (though they love to burrow)!!!

She slept in a crate for over a year. You say crate - and in the crate she goes. It was my decision to let her sleep in the bed - really it was laziness on my part. I’d just fall asleep while having evening cuddles!!! Of course, I’d probably break her little heart if I told her to sleep in a crate now! LOL Then again, she goes into her crate quite a bit just to snooze or hang out 🙂

I think there will be animals in heaven! Afterall, scripture speaks of the lamb and lion - why not cats and dogs? Animals are incapable of offending their Creator, incapable of sin. Conversely, animals are incapable of performing works of charity, or exhibiting love. I strongly disagree with you here. Animals can most certainly exhibit love. My cat who had just been fed bits of chopped up steak jumped up in my lap and purred and kneaded and was absolutely blissful. Was that an expression of “thanks” and “I love what you just did for me?” I would say yes. Usually she spends all afternoon sleeping in her spot of sun, but today she took time out just for me. Love! Jesus did not die on the Cross to save animals from sin and thereby allow them to rise on the last day. Animals will not be judged after their deaths. right. Therefore, animals will not be in Heaven (or Hell for that matter). wrong. The life force of an animal’s soul is forever extinguished after its death if a soul and lifeforce is energy, where does that energy go? Basic physics. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It transfers. Where does the animal’s lifeforce energy transfer to? …Animals act on instinct and cannot rationalize (they cannot plan what they will do tomorrow). Oh, I think my dog pretty much plans on that walk every day. I skip one day, and boy, do I know what I forgot! Your pets do not love their masters. I disagree. Dogs and cats act in a manner which seeks to satify their appetites and the drive of their instinctual natures. Don’t we all seek to satisfy our appetites?

Animals CAN show love. I am certain of it. Like my cat I mentioned ‘thanking me’ and loving me up for her treat this afternoon, so do dogs. How many dogs show true affection to their people? Almost all, I would bet! People have 1000s of stories of different pets showing love (dogs, cats, rabbits, guineas, rats, etc.) /quote]

Blasko, what is wrong with this statement?

It IS true that some humans do not choose to or are not capable to love. Many animals DO show forms of love, appreciation, and true affection for humans. Some humans (think sociopath, for example) are incapable of true love or affection. Narcissists show only love for themselves, not others. Some animals can show greater love for others than SOME humans.

Well, that’s why there are so many responses, I suppose. You say inordinate and others disagree. Your definition is not the same as others. I think that there will be no agreement on this unless you, yourself, experience life with a pet. Of course, you don’t have to (I used to never want a pet), and that’s fine, but you and the pet lover are coming from two different angles and the need to “agree to disagree” seems to be in order.
…many posters claim that their pets will be with them in Heaven and …The life force of an animal’s soul is forever extinguished after its death…
WHAT? No WAY! If I get up to heaven and my dogs aren’t waiting I’m going to go looking for them! 😉
Animals act on instinct and cannot rationalize
LOL - You’ve never met my Dachshund, have you ? 😉
