I don’t like sports either but I will talk of intellectual issues as though I were talking about sports and just as aggressive as a sports nut. My posts, in part, can attest to this aggression. Men are more aggressive by nature it is what it is and that’s why male bonding is something sought by men. I too grew up without a positive male role model but I guess I found others, inappropriate at the time certainly, but I found them and I guess my personality was shaped by their aggressive nature, even years later.

I’m surprised of the disparity between men’s and women’s groups that you speak of.

On the other note, if you go as a bear, they might let you in or they may shoot you. It’s a risk you will have to take. In any case, I don’t think you’re missing much.

Well, women can be plenty aggressive at times, I have noticed. 😃

But part of maleness is just the testosterone and whatnot. That is how God made us, generally speaking. God made us to protect women. That wimp Adam did not do his job. And look where it got us.

That was interesting…quite an analysis of the social dynamic there. I was following fairly carefully until about half way into the paragraph, then my ADD got the better of me. I’ll just take your word for it. 🙂

I like that, well put. Adam dropped the ball, or rather the apple, on that one. 😆

I don’t know why men have so much difficulty coping with emotions, even after all of this time and societal “advancement.” You are right about women being aggressive but they also cry more giving them a more reliable emotional release than exercising like I do. My girlfriend cries all the time for no reason, that I can see anyway and really I can’t no matter how much I try I simply can’t. Sometimes I wish I could be like that and I am not kidding. One, there are others certainly but this one being prominent, reason men die earlier is because we can’t let it all go as easily as women can.

Now, now, are you sure you’re not being a little cynical there. 🙂

I’m sure they are sometimes…I guess I was thinking more of small discussion groups, though.

Yeah, bigger groups, those are not for me at all.

This happens in AA meetings too believe it or not and from both sides.

OK, here is my semi-random video for the thread, just so I don’t get out of practice.

You like groups. I don’t. People who love groups probably prefer talking to listening. Sorry there are exceptions like yourself for instance.

nononononononoooo… I don’t like groups. Please call me a communist, but don’t say I like groups. 🙂

I have been to AA meetings. There is sometimes a competition to see who can tell the “best” story, warts and all . On the other hand I have been to some excellent AA meetings. Holy Spirit was definitely in attendance.

Absolutely, I only said that it happens despite that it shouldn’t.

I’ve been in AA meetings and I’ve only seen men do the “I’m going to talk for as long as I want” shares. OTOH, in parish meetings…

I once went to an alpha course that felt like a series of AA meetings.

If I were to join a group I would prefer it to be both men and women, giving a more all round balanced view of what we were discussing.I actually prefer the company of men perhaps more as I kind of find them easier to relate to,
and find their frankness easier to deal with. That’s just me,in the past I’ve worked with men .Perhaps having six brothers has had something to do with it also 🙂

There is no strict rule about this. Be in the company that you
Iike and comfortable with.

Same sex group usually has a purpose in itself. It is easier to discuss men’s issue for example, where the other sex would not be out of place or feel irrelevant or bored.

I’d take some of that over this but I live in a very hyper politicized city. It doesn’t happen too often but it shouldn’t happen at all and I never heard anyone attempt to correct the persons doing it.
