Slightly daft question about marriage

they would ask the priest about consolidation and other things. Is this couple going through RCIA?

Ours was an actual convalidation, not a blessing. I guess even if we didn’t need it, I am very glad we got it. We were married at a wedding chapel the first time around, not a church.
 
Double doesn’t hurt anything, luckily! I worked in a parish where the pastor had a hard time with what was involved in a convalidation—he did a bunch that really should have just been blessings and then a few invalid convalidations —so people realized later that their marriages weren’t valid.
 
Apparently not a daft question, OP, with the amount of misinformation on this thread.

Non-Catholics who marry and later become Catholic need do nothing. A convalidation would be akin to baptizing someone a second time — no effect, and not really proper. The convalidation is only needed if someone was Catholic prior to marriage and didn’t follow the Church’s laws concerning the marriage.
