As a Dean at a local high school, I notice this year there is more anger, less self-control than ever before among the students. This generation has been failed by the allowance of certain music, internet accessibility and other things that the adults should have had an eye on. I ask all here to offer the Prayer to St. Michael on behalf of my students and myself. Thanks so much.

You noticed that much difference from one year to the next?

unfortunately, yes. It has been a trend, thats true, but this freshman class has been the worst in years. What is more unseemly, most of the fights so far this year are between girls.

Isn’t it well documented that parents since the 1600’s and 1700’s have been saying precisely this? Just take out “internet, certain kinds of music” and replace it with “secular books and music and modern looking clothing” …

perhaps, but the anger and negativity were not near these levels. I hope I cant count on all here for their recitation of the Prayer of St. Michael.

We have talked of the slippery slope for a long time. However slippery slopes come to abrupt free-fall drops, which culminate in a disasterous smash.

I think we went over the edge some time ago, when we first voted for a pro-abortion president. What is left now is the abrupt stop at the bottom.

While God will always forgive the sinner, I think there comes a point at which He will no longer forgive the nation. See 2 Chronicals 34:26-28.
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words which you have heard, 27 because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me, and have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the LORD. 28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.’" And they brought back word to the king.

two school shootings already this year, one happened, one foiled, but barely, and it is only the beginning of October. Oh yeah the rage quotient is growing exponentially each year and you bet we are praying. If 8th grade girls having vicious catfights on the lawn on CCD night are a problem for us I can only imagine what public school teachers face daily. St. Michael pray for us.

I have to agree on this. the last five years I worked I was a gang task force member and advisor. We noticed that anger, rage and bitterness seemed almost the ideal among teenagers, not only gang members, but otherwise normal and healthy teenagers. The one common link that we could find was that almost all of the kids so affected were afficianados of gangsta rap. That particular genre of music is pretty violent and filled with rage against almost everything and extols a view of basically live fast, live hard, die young and don’t give a s…t about anything or anybody. Heck all you have to do is log on to Myspace and see the profiles of some of these kids, 14 year old girls referring to themselves as #1 gangsta hoe and 13 year old boys having nicknames of killa thug or pimp daddy the hoes delite.

Somewhere, we as parents lost control of something and let these abominations happen. I have to be honest, I don’t see a whole lot of hope for most of these kids, I really don’t. Thats hard for me to say, but I really don’t.

Thats why we need to recite the Prayer to St. Michael and stop Satan from going after our kids!!!

I was talking about this the other night with a friend who just returned to teaching this year after 20 years as a church musician. She was shocked by what she saw in GRAMMAR school children. These are middle to upper middle class children, with all the advantages. Being smart is NOT cool, getting good grades is not something they strive for. Anything that involves discipline or hard work is to be avoided at all costs. The slightest inconvenience or perceived “disrespect” is met with fury. Not simple disappointment or irritation-FURY. Students expect everything to be entertaining or “fun”.

If we don’t change the expectations that we have for our children, the US will be even lower on the worldwide educational scale than we are now.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

My husband is a teacher and sees the same. Praying for all our youth!

I think our situation calls for the original St. Michael Prayer - the one Pope Leo XIII penned after having the vision that knocked him unconscious (look up the story, it is interesting).

Here’s a link to the original (and much longer) prayer to St. Michael:

As a future teacher, I want to ask you- the administrator- what you have implemented at the school to deal with this?
We are learning about a lot of things in my classroom management class, and anti-bullying, Ophelia, Jones, Glasser, etc… are all buzzwords and techniques we are learning about.

Are you taking a top down approach, or a grassroots approach?

Courtesy of wiki:

[In 1884?]…When the aged Pontiff had finished celebrating Mass in his private Vatican Chapel, attended by a few Cardinals and members of the Vatican staff, he suddenly stopped at the foot of the altar. He stood there for about 10 minutes, as if in a trance, his face ashen white. Then, going immediately from the Chapel to his office, he composed the prayer to St. Michael, with instructions it be said after all Low Masses everywhere. When asked what had happened, he explained that, as he was about to leave the foot of the altar, he suddenly heard voices - two voices, one kind and gentle, the other guttural and harsh. They seemed to come from near the tabernacle. As he listened, he heard the following conversation:

The guttural voice, the voice of Satan in his pride, boasted to Our Lord:
“I can destroy your Church.”

The gentle voice of Our Lord:
“You can? Then go ahead and do so.”

Satan:
“To do so, I need more time and more power.”

Our Lord:
"How much time? How much power?

Satan:
“75 to 100 years, and a greater power over those
who will give themselves over to my service.”

Our Lord:
“You have the time, you will have the power.
Do with them what you will.”

Coach,

I just said the Prayer to St. Michael, for your kids. I have one to add that I say for my kids (I am in the social work field–and I hear where you’re coming from!)

Prayer for Our Youth:
God, our Father, we thank You for the gift of love and the gift of life. We thank you for the gift of our children. We ask You to send Your holy angels to protect and guide them each day so that they will walk the narrow path of purity, self-control and obedience, as was taught to us by Your own Son, Jesus Christ. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, in union with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“A curse be on you, for the time is coming when your men shall be weak and your women without shame”
-The gods to the mortals after the conquest of Ireland (Irish Myth)

Weak men and women without shame… hmm, seems like the ancient knew what a degenerate society would look like.
