Since Thanksgiving our lives are so hectic! It seems if I am not cleaning house / folding laundry / cooking dinner, we are at the store shopping. I hate to admit that I dont know the last time I was in church or took the kids for that matter. I feel a tug at my heartstrings to slowwww down… I feel like a rushed- hurried - stressed out mommy 99% of the time. Im irritable & snap at my husband almost everyday.

To top if off I have been thinking about returning to college to possibly become a nurse. Im really not sure I want to add more stress to my life. If anything I want to slow down & smell the roses. I want to watch my kids grow & enjoy each day. This college thing has been hanging over my head for so long & I cant let it go. I love learning & the thought of going back to school excites me - but Im not sure I want the stress that goes along with it.

I also want to deepen my faith and get back to church so I can be a good role model to my children.

Hi kate(name removed by moderator)!

I hear ya–life can be so hectic and fast paced. We moved here in June/07, and time has just whisked by. I think it’s great that you want to get back to Church–that will actually help you to slow down…I have found that when immersing ourselves as a family, back in the faith, we become more cognizant of prayer life, etc…and things just naturally feel calmer around us. (even when life is giong at 100 mph!):o

You know who is a good saint to pray for discernment of God’s will? St Ignatius of Loyola…he was very intent on learning and teaching how to understand and discern God’s will in one’s life…whether it be marriage, career, whatever…Maybe you should seek out one of his books–they have helped my husband and I considerably, when we were confused on God’s will for our lives. Good luck to you, and your beautiful dreams and goals! May God bless you and your family–and I wish you a blessed and God centered 2008!🙂

boy do I know how you feel!
I feel at times I am near to losing my mind from the craziness around here. I need to slow down. It may be hard with our new task for the new year… buy a home. Good luck to us both.

Hi Kate(name removed by moderator), I returned to school this past fall to become an RN! I have been drawn to this for so long and I finally took the plunge. It has been a long time since I was in school. My kids are growing now and are in school. I have been very careful with planning to only attend classes during the day when they are in school. I’m sure it will get a little tricky doing so next year.
I really understand your feelings. I want all of the things you mentioned and I have been thinking and praying alot about how I’m going to acheive these things and be happy and peaceful at the same time. I am a catechist at my church and also attending school 3 days…plus everything else. It really is alot more than I am used to. I am planning over the next few days to become more organized and structured so I can *do it all! *
I am redoing chore charts for the family and going to pre plan dinners etc. I’m excited. I was so happy to get my report card last week from my first semester with a 3.7 gpa.
Pray on it and the right decision will come. God Bless!!

I remember like it was yesterday having the same feelings when my kids were school age and I was supermom, superwife, uberhousekeeper, and worked as well. band mom, scouts, PTO etc, etc, etc. It took a lot of angst and crises to realize most of the pressure on me was self-imposed, that my family neither desired or appreciated my working into a frazzle to make things perfect.

what got me out of the pit was priorities, when DH started his own business, we moved twice in 3 years, and had to prioritize and budget not only expenses but, possessions, time, activities, and commitments.

it may be that going back to school will be just the impetus (or excuse) you need to say NO to things that don’t need doing, that someone else should be doing, or that you just plain don’t feel like doing.

If you don’t want to add more stress to your life I would suggest another career path… As an RN- I have to tell you- Nursing is very rewarding but SOOOO STRESSFUL!!! Of course there are a million different ways to work as a nurse but its not exactly a relaxing job- There is always way more work than you can get done in a shift and the paperwork, legal stuff is ridiculous. As a relatively recent graduate ( 4 years ago) I have already experience burn out and have been thinking of switching jobs- I LOVE nursing- but the stress is just not worth it to me. GOOD LUCK- DOn;t want to rain on your idea- just to give you an honest opinion!🙂

As a very seasoned nurse (15 years), I tend to disagree. There’s no doubt in my mind that this was the correct career path for me. Stressful … yes, but not everyday. And, I don’t think that there’s a job in this world that doesn’t have some sort of degree of stress attached to it. That’s life. 🤷

I’d recommend finding a nurse in your area, who enjoys her (or his) job, and go out to lunch … talk to them about the pros and cons of the job, and maybe shadow them a day or two.
Make sure you do lots of research about the schools in your area, and take your time. You’re in no hurry for this degree, (I assume) so enjoy your time learning.
