Smart phones!

I have an HTC Evo 3D (it’s not new) with Android.

I use it for:
  1. texting
  2. callling
  3. Facebook, Internet and Skype
  4. practical everyday stuff - alarm clock, appointment book
  5. Office programs (Word, Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint)
I use it a lot for Skype when I’m away from home, usually on business. That was actually one of the main reasons I chose it, I was trying to decide between a mini laptop or something and a new phone, and then my old phone was stolen, so I needed something to go online and stay in touch when I’m away.
It really helps that it has all MS Office programs, I do use them a lot on business trips, I really don’t like lugging my big work laptop everywhere.

I don’t use it for entertainment because the battery doesn’t last too long, I have an mp4 for that.

I’m not convinced I want to set myself up to “have” to have one. I don’t need to be tied to e-mail for my job.

Ha, same here. Everytime I get a new phone, I am tempted by the allure of the smart phone, but I have managed to resist so far. 😛 New technology can be a blessing and a curse in that way. If you don’t have it, you don’t miss it, but once you have it, it’s hard to give up. I put off getting a cell phone at all for a long time for that reason. I wasn’t motivated to get a phone until I got caught driving in a blizzard by myself (turning a 7 hour car drive into a 14 hour car drive). And of course, now I can’t imagine not having one. :o

It would be nice. If it were simply a one-time extra cost, I would do it. But the prospect of saddling myself with one more extra bill each month encourages me to keep dragging my feet…
 
For those of you with Windows smart phones, what Catholic apps do you have?
 
I have an LG L9, which I waited for for a long time, categorically rejecting any substitute, ever since seeing it on offer at 0 price with just a little more demanding subscription plan than I had before. It simply beat even those phones which actually cost quite a bunch of dough, from other companies.

I’m illiterate when it comes to phones, and it’s all Android these days anyway, so there’s little to individuate them, but this thing has a huge resolution and the newest operation system out of the box. Not bad photo camera. Touch screen not that bad for typing, either, certainly not as annoying as the older generations. I’m probably not gonna use most of its functions but what I have doesn’t look bad.

But I was tempted to avoid smart phones and get a dumb phone with a proper keyboard. Then again, I’m not a high-octane mobile e-mail-writing-from-phone instantaneous reaction time corporate person, so I don’t really need a pocket typewriter.

i just got a new Motorola Razor M. MOTXT907. I have a great catholic app which I use for all my prayers. It is called Laudate and it is free. i have a couple versions of the catholic bible on it, the entire catechism, hundreds of prayers and novenas. All the Roman missile changes are included and so much more. I just made a cover for it so when I use it at Mass people will know I am praying not texting. All my prayers for after communion are there and the new Nicene creed which I have yet to memorize. My prayers for before Mass, the rosary, chaplets are all included in this one app. Also there are other great Catholic apps for free. It has greatly enhanced my spiritual life because I can pray rote prayers at the snap of a finger instead of carrying around bulky prayer books. I also use the interactive rosary app by LMNO. Sometimes I fall asleep praying the rosary with the soothing voice. But I figure my guardian angel finishes it for me. I would highly recommend a smart-phone but just make sure that you are really going to use it for good purposes. I figure if the good God gave us the intelligence we might as well use it for His purposes. During Mass I make sure the volume is turned to vibrate so that the phone part won’t ring.

P.S. Let’s all not forget to pray for our Pope emeritus. I really miss him. I have a wallpaper of him on my phone so I can still look at his smiling face.:highprayer::grouphug:
 
Ended up getting a Razr M. Happy with it so far.

Hubby got the Razr Maxx HD and likes it just fine.
 
i think I may have responded about this before but will again. I think it is an important topic especially in light of the crazy things these phones are being used for. I have all the great catholic apps which I enjoy using during Mass and prayer time. Laudate is the best Catholic app. It has all the Roman Missal changes which I need because I have not yet memorized the new Creed yet. I use a black screen setting with white letter as I have trouble with my vision. Missalette books are difficult for me to read in the low light at most churches . I should also mention that I use a cover so that it looks like a prayer book.
MY PHONE IS A NEW DROID RAZOR M 4G. I also use my phone for praying the divine mercy chaplet and rosary. i have apps that play these prayers aloud. It is great for when you r in the car or in bed at night. you can listen and pray along.
I have made a personal decision to use this new technology for Gods greater glory in a time when others are using technology for sinful purposes.
I should also be honest and say that I do like my solitaire game, Gas Buddy to find deals on gas purchases while on the road. It is a handheld little computer so it is nice to have info at the tips of your fingers.
Also I set up a WI-fi in my home so I can get away with paying for less data. I have 2 gigs between me and my dad. free wi fi is great and available almost anywhere.:snowing:
