Hi, I’m new to this board, but I have to ask my question!
To start I am a first time mom to twins John and Madaline who are 15 months old. I grew up catholic and went to catholic school. I don’t go to mass as often as I would like but our local church doesn’t have day care and some people made some comments about us bringing the twins to service’s so now that they are getting older we are going to try more.
Ok here’s what as been happening.
Our twins were born at 32 weeks, 8 weeks early. They were in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for a 3-4 week period of time. To go back further, I never should have even been able to conceive, they always told us it was impossiable because of certain conditions, but low and behold we have twins (thank’s be to God). OK so when we were in the NICU I spent a lot of time praying, a lot of time. i was a new mom and my babies were weak and and it was all just scary for me. Our son was on a Vent, and then on c-pap for a long time, they had all kinds of IV’s and feeding tubes, and I just didn’t know how to handle it. I had a seriously complicated high risk pregnancy and my recovery was anything but uneventful, I had all kinds of problems. Needless to say I was panic stricken a lot of the time.
There was a volunteer who out of the blue asked me one day if I had my rosary with me, how she knew I was catholic, I don’t know, but she gave me a pink and a blue one for the twins and she said one with me for each of the twins and then she left. She didn’t see any of the other babies in the NICU, she came rite to our little alcove and sat with my twins, with my permission of course. After that is when the roses started. I would start to get upset and start asking (in my head) for help and clarity to help my children and I would smell roses. Everywhere roses in our little alcove, and seeing how this is a NICU nursery there are no air fresheners, and no flowers allowed, you are not to even wear perfume because of the delicate conditions of the preemie lungs. NO matter I had this overwhelming scent of roses. I asked the nurses one time if they smelled it and they called my nurse to have them come and take me back to my room because they thought I needed a "rest’.
We never saw that volunteer again, and as i think back I can’t even recall that she had on a hospital badge, as they usually have to be out.
Fast forward to bring home our little ones. My husband worked 2 jobs so that I could stay home with our babies so he worked from 6 am to 11 pm with a 1.5 hour break in the middle to nap at home. So i did everything with them during the week. When I would have to get up you know 4 times a night and do double feedings I used to pray to help them sleep, they seemed so restless for a while. And the roses smell started at home. It was so calming an so beautiful. Within a month they were only getting up once a night and by the time they were 3 months old they slept from 8 pm to 6 am no problem. NOw they sleep from 7-9 every single night, and the roses are still around us. Not every day, usually when I get all panicky that things are going hay wire.
I would always say hail mary’s to help them get to sleep, and thats what I was doing when the rose’s started at home. I would pray for help as a mother, for guidence, truly I had no idea what I was doing. And then all of a sudden a peace would come over me and again with the roses.
I am amazed by this, I don’t know what it is or if it is some strange coincidince. ( I don’t see how it can be )
Any opinions would be great!!
The twins are now happy healthy, big and strong and running around everywhere!!
