I know there has been a question already posed about weed being sinful or not.

There are, however, some legal herbs that you can smoke to achieve a “legal high.” The responsibilities of the person usually still remains, depending on how careful the person is when he gets legally high. The equivalent of being drunk off alcohol is being this legal high. However, this legal high still allows the person to retain a sense of responsibility (While high, I was still able to hide everyone’s keys, hide sharp objects in the room, prevent people from going outside the house, and assist people in complicated tasks).

My question is that is it sinful to smoke these legal herbs? The repetitive abuse of anything is sinful, but is the occasional smoke ok?

I would greatly appreciate if someone were to answer my question. I give all this information for subjective consideration by any audience. Thanks.

The primary reason that drunkenness (which, for our purposes here, includes say, becoming so stoned that you can barely move) is sinful is because it abrogates the use of reason. Since you could still exercise your reason while high- and were responsible enough to take some precautions in case you lost control- I would say that there’s nothing sinful about it; just remember to practice temperance and receive with thanksgiving, as the Apostle says (1 Timothy 4:4).

Whether the herbs are legal or not, in my opinion the simple idea of intentionally breathing smoke is a dumb idea. Smoke–any smoke contains particulates and chemicals that are bad for the health. Intentionally engaging in long-term exposure to them would be unhealthy, and therefore immoral.

Interesting question.

Marijuana is legal in the Netherlands so long as it is purchased and immediately consumed in a licensed establishment.

Any opinions on the morality of doing so?**

There is the music of Barry Manilow.
Therefore, there must be a hell.

You either see this one or you don’t.**

I think this would be much more morally acceptable then tobacco. For the sole reason that most are not addictive. It is bad for your health. So is alcohol, caffeine, cell phones, diet soda (I hear they can give you cancer), computer monitors.

In my opinion, as long as it is not habit forming, it is legal, and you exercise temperance, it is not sinful.

Actually tobacco is not evil or exceptionally bad for you. It is commercial cigarettes and other commercial tobacco products that one should stay away from. Provided you grow it without using pesticides, cure it fully, and process without no chemicals or additives like the companies do, the tobacco will be much less unhealthy than commercial tobacco.

To the OP:

If you do it in moderation and for goodness sakes, don’t let it control you, then you’re fine. Although I wouldn’t advocate going around looking for substances that can get you high just because they are legal.

Like I said (excuse me if I didn’t) I’m not making a habit out of it. I’m just moving to college next week, and I am making sure I don’t bring any of it with me.

I appreciate everyone’s (name removed by moderator)ut. I am personally do not smoke or drink, but I had a good time while it lasted.

Thanks.

While the discussion lasted or while your smoking and drinking lasted?

If the latter, it reminds me of the old limerick:

There once was a man named Sidney
Who drank 'til he ruined a kidney.
It shriveled and shrank
As he drank and he drank,
But he had fun doing it, did’n he?
