I work at a center that deals with victims of sexual abuse and offenders as well and I think its about time I spoke up on this issue of SNAP. It’s no suprise that SNAP has people working for them that have deviant desires and tendencies in themselves. People who have these perversions in their heads sometimes will do everything they can to look like on the outside what they are not on the inside. An example are men in prison who on one hand demonise a sex offender and assault him but on the other hand the assault is sexual,he in turn will rape the sex offender. Both men are deviants and guilty of the same thing. The only difference is the vigilante won’t admit that he is exactly the same as the sex offender he just raped. As a counselor and a catholic I must say SNAP is doing more harm than good. SNAP is anti catholic and anti clergy, their actions speak for themselves. In many cases SNAP actually revictimizes the victims. After thirty or forty years they make people dredge up things they either put in their past and forgot or came to terms with, opening old wounds, refreshing the pain. Thirty or forty years! If this was about justice, really about justice and the children SNAP would be going up against the protestant denominations, the Jewish synagogues, AND THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM! All of which have way more cases of sexual abuse against children than the Catholic Church. This is about money, and an attempt to bring down the Church that opposes the worldly open acceptance of various immoral practices. And SNAP members, you show up at my church I’m not going to be a good catholic. Oh no, GAME ON! I won’t let you pull your load of bull there. Keep that in mind from now on since you know not where I others like me are.

Hi StMike,

You say many things I have really suspected, but I don’t have your experience to be able to say them with credibility.

There is nothing unchristian about getting tough (but fair) in battling SNAP and other groups like it. People who engage in the culture need to do so with responsiblity, and to be held to account when they choose to play dirty pool.

I really don’t see the reason to have a group that is just about uprooting child sex predation in the Catholic Church. It is fair, of course, to hold any religious body responsible for safeguarding the safety of children, but why single out a particular church? Perhaps if we are looking at a group composed of faithful members who are really motivated by concern for the moral integrity of their own church…but SNAP is not like that. If these folks really want to help victims of sex predation, they should have a broad perspective.

God Bless,
Joan

How many more morally debased psychiatrists are working with SNAP?

Very true. And to follow this logic, since some Catholic Priests, including a Fr. Maciel, are disgusting pedophiles, one must ask how many more morally debased Priests (or Bishops?) are working right now in the Church?

Well, its a logical question, no?
I suspect you did not catch the sarcasm in his comments.

It’s funny how teachings of “forgiveness” and “hate the sin, love the sinner” and “turn the other cheek” are thrown around in justification of the church scandal, but they are quickly forgotten now.

None of us have the right to talk about “irony” or anything of the sort after what happened in our church.
I disagree our Church has adressed this issue extensively and made amends . I am wating to see if SNAP does the same.
