Me and my sisters and some friends went to the movie theaters today and snuck in food which I dont think is sinful. However, since both of my sisters and one friend were under 21, Im not sure whether or not us sneaking twisted tea into the theaters was sinful at all.

Im not certain what “twisted tea” is.

If it is something containing alcohol, and 21 is your area’s drinking age, then yes , there might be a sin involved, as we are not to break the law without grave reason.

Twisted Tea in my neck of the woods is a tea like beverage with alcohol in it.

Sneaking food or beverage into a movie theater is a sin against charity. Theater owners make no money on ticket sales in the first week a movie runs and not much after that. The majority of the monies they can use to pay for rent, salaries, utilities, and maybe a small profit comes from the sale of food and beverages. If one cannot obey the rules of the theater one should wait for movie to come out on DVD.

As for the twisted tea, providing alcoholic beverages to minors is a serious legal offense. Bringing it into a movie theater constitutes drinking in public, also a legal offense. Breaking the law is sinful unless the law itself is sinful.

There’s so little alcohol in those though…it’s not like you were doing shots with minors:D

Legally, the only time minors can drink is home with the parents. I doubt alcohol is allowed in the theatre.Stick to nonalcoholic beverages with minors. No reason to get yourself into trouble uncessarily.

Unless the theater has a liquor license, you can’t drink alcohol, likewise it must be purchased in the business (some gheaters allow alcohol sales…). If they do not have the proper licenses, then you are drinking in public, a crime.

The word sneaking should tell you that you are being sinful…at least a little bit!

You don’t want the embarrassment or legal issues to follow you from just going to a movie, so don’t do it again!

It’s the same amount of alcohol that would be in a can of beer.
Alcohol is alcohol, and should not be served to minors. Period.

I agree that it is bizarre. The issue was to keep highschoolers from driving drunk, so to my mind, drinking should be lowered, and driving raised, to the age of 18.

I don’t know about the twisted tea. That’s better at home.

But I don’t think it’s a “sin” to have a candy bar in your purse, or some chewing gum. Everything can’t be a sin all the time.

It would seem a little silly to think you could bring in a bag of popcorn from the grocery store. They probably would say something about it.

You could bring in a pouch of microwave popcorn; but there would be no way to pop it.

I agree. Unfortunately, the assumption seems to be that if someone has a drink they will automatically become an alcoholic or be irresponsible and drive while intoxicated. What’s needed is parents educating their children on how to drink occasionally and be responsible.

As for sneaking food into theaters, I did it years ago, but not just because of the prices. Here in America the portion sizes are way too big, and I just wanted a little treat, so I’d bring something small.

I also agree that the high ticket prices and the quality of films is not always worthwhile nowadays.

God bless you.

I agree. I think it goes back to some sort of Puritan or tee-totaler ideas in American history and we stayed with it.
For me, the European customs where mild alcohol is not considered evil but just a normal part of life is much more reasonable.

I do believe that there should be a youth limit on the buying of alcohol, though not beyond adulthood, as it is now. And if anything, alcohol use in connection with motor traffic should be punished harder than it is now.

But I don’t really think it is a Puritan issue, rather from the late 1800s, when male drunkenness in America was rampant, with enormous social costs. The laws we have now are a reaction to that.
