Snowed in! And can't get to church

I feel terrible! We are in the midst of a snowstorm, and I wasn’t able to get to church this evening. It doesn’t look like I will be able to go tomorrow, either, the way the forecast looks. I haven’t missed mass in over a year, and it feels really weird not going this weekend.😦
 
I’m sorry mommy 😦 I’ll send up a prayer for you :gopray2: know that God is with you and undestands 🙂 the snow will stop and maybe you can go durning the week?
 
I am in WI. We went tonite knowing tomorrow will be nasty (we are facing the same storm you are- only it is just arriving here late tonite).

I know that you feel bad, but realize it is beyond your control. My wife and I just had this conversation tonight after watching the weather report on the bizzard conditions for all of tomorrow. It really is not safe to drive.

Stay warm and safe. Offer up some extra prayers. Maybe you can catch Mass on TV or radio?

We had a bad snowstorm last week where I live. Yesterday during Mass the priest said that if somebody could not get to church because of the snow, it was not a sin. He said to stop being scrupulous. If unable to shovel the snow, especially if elderly, it was not a sin. He also said he doesn’t want to have to perform any more funerals due to people shoveling when they are physically unable to. He said say prayers instead and make a spiritual Communion. If you cannot get to Church due to the weather but had the intention of going no sin has been committed.
 
Thank you guys, you make me feel better. It’s Sunday morning now, and I’m sitting here with my cup of coffee, keeping an eye on the forecast. It’s tapering off now, but we’re still in a winter storm warning for most of the day. We live out in the country, and I doubt that we will get plowed out before tomorrow. Our county doesn’t run the snow plows on non-main roads because they don’t want to pay overtime on the weekends.

I have seen some announcements that some church’s are cancelling services this morning - not Catholic ones, mind you, but it makes me feel better that other people can’t get out, either.

Yep, I might be able to go to a Tuesday evenig service at one of our local parishes.

I hope you all have a safe and happy Sunday, no matter what your weather brings you!
 
Hang in there, Mommy! Mass starts on EWTN in about an hour. And if you have DirectTV, Notre Dame Mass runs continuously on Channel 103. It may not “count” but it can certainly help you feel better.

If the city plows had not gotten to our street, we would not have made it to Mass this morning.

You are in my thoughts. My elderly aunt lives in central Iowa and has been without power since yesterday afternoon. Hope everyone remains safe during this difficult time.

Oh - I wasn’t aware of people around here without power! We have been lucky - we’re safe and sound with power, food, etc. I’m finally putting some of my Christmas decorations away today!

Blyss - I will pray that your aunt is ok.
 
I couldn’t go this morning, either - althought it started snowing around 10:30, my mom didn’t want to drive me in it and take any chances. So, I watched Mass on EWTN.

You can watch it on EWTN’s website, too. I have a shortcut on my desktop that links to their online TV page.

I read on the internet where about 170,000 were without power…and could be for days. I am trying to get her into a shelter. I will be glad when winter is over this year.

We’re in the same boat, mommyof4. We can’t even get out of our driveway because of the 3 foot pile of snow at the entrance. So, we are observing the Lord’s Day quietly and offering up our inability to attend Mass as a spiritual suffering.
 
You know what? There was a time (sadly enough) in my life when I would have thought “Yea! I don’t need to go to church today! It’s a legitimate excuse to stay home!”

I don’t feel that way anymore. I genuinly feel sad that I can not get there today.
 
With the number of accidents and associated deaths already this weekend, stay home and be safe.

If the weather improves and you can get out later this week, go to mass, not to replace the mass you were unable to attend, but to fill your spiritual longing and to receive the Holy Eucharist. In the meantime, include prayer today in your plans.

I live a short distance from church and it is dangerous even to walk on the icy sidewalks. Cheer up, spring is coming! After all, doesn’t Lent mean “spring!”

Same for me. Not only is the weather bad, but I also am very sick today. I hate not being able to make it.

I still get happy when I am at my parents house and my mom doesn’t give me a guilt trip over not going to her church(Baptist). I do love Mass though.
