I read the article:

christopherwest.com/page.asp?ContentID=36

Bono is a great showman but certainly has a clear understanding who he is, the band has not split up due to egos etc and been at the top for so long that show inteligence.

I have wondered about U2’s religion, hence I am on this site. I can understand that growing up in Ireland with all the conflict about religion may be enough to put many people off and there is also a lot of hypocrisy as well.

Bono had great respect for Pope John Paul II so he is obviously not an extreme Protestant either is he a Catholic.

U2 were great at Glastonbury last night!!!👍

better hope so because it’ll take a miracle for their SpiderMan musical to break even!

I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’ve seen Darby O’Gill and the Little people AND The Quiet Man.

If you read the lyrics of certain songs, they do make biblical references. I’ve rarely read any lyric of U2’s that is blatantly sexual in content and meaning which is refreshing as most rock bands make a lot of references to sex and/or drugs in their lyrics.

Not according to NME, who report there were protesters raising awareness of U2’s un-Christian tax-dodging habits (I love one of the comments posted below the story: "Maybe they should cover The Beatles’ “Taxman” :D) :

I’m not a fan of U2 (or much pop music in general), but the sheer amount of people angry over their tax-dodging baffles me. Out of all the things you could protest in the world people choose that. I blame students with too much time on their hands. 😛

And they were great at Glastonbury.

I do not dispute any of this. Tax evasion and tax avoidance are morally disgusting, whether they are law abiding or not. But some people I’ve met have only been infuriated (or at least pretended to be infuriated) by this because a rock band are involved and show little interest in or knowledge of the evils embedded in corporate conglomerates. It’s as if problems only exist so long as they are propagated via pop culture.

Ever hear of a band from the 1980’s (though they’re still around) called Negativland? Island Records (U2’s label at the time) sued them over an album called “U-2” (like the spy plane) and it was pulled from circulation. SST, Negativland’s label that was also home to a ton of cool bands at the time, in turn sued them for recovery of legal costs, and they eventually went under. There were a lot of people’s careers ruined over that, and Bono could have put a stop to it. But he didn’t. So, it sounds like textbook what comes around goes around.

Here’s a video I saw a while back with quotes on Christianity from Bono.

As Springsteen said when he inducted them into the rock n’ roll hall of fame (I’m paraphrasing), “U2’s songs are a search for God.”

Here’s a version of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” performed as a Gospel song. Featuring U2 and a Harlem choir.

U2 did great last night in Miami. I was glad to be there.

Hey! I was at that show too! My 3rd U2 concert. 🙂

I love the band. No one is perfect. Like someone else said… the good that they do speaks louder than the bad. I love the band, and admire Bono a lot. :heaven:

Bono has said that he is “Catholish” or I have also heard him say that he is “kind of catholic”
