Hi Everyone,

My name is Kristen and I am new here. Im not sure I am posting this in the right place but Im going to try anyway. I have also recently returned to the Catholic church. I have been suffering from OCD for about 15 years now. I get thoughts in my head telling me to do or not do things or else something bad will happen. The problem is, I sometimes think that this is God talking to me. For example, a few days ago the thoughts said in my head " Don’t look at the TV Guide or you will be possessed" and " Don’t watch TV or wash your face or read a book or put your hair up, etc or you will be possessed." I finally couldn’t take it anymore and just did all the things it told me not to cause it was so oppressive and making it impossible to do anything. Does this mean I am possessed? Would God say something like that to someone? Is he talking to me? I really would appreciate help with this. Thank You.

Be assured God would not tell you to do anything that would bring you personal harm. You must discern these things on the basis of this single, important truth.

Secondly, you are in need of professional help. You should go to the emergency room, my dear. You are suffering unecessarily.
Contact a friend and relative as soon as you read this and get over there.

Sometimes, our brains fire off thoughts in our head. Why they try to lead us to harm, I don’t know. Measure them against what makes sense to you. If the voices ask you to do something bizarre or harmful, it is most definitely NOT God, and should be IGNORED. Recognize it for what it is, and seek out help. Obeying the voices give only temporary relief, and come back. They must be put under control.

Please go to the emergency room. When you come back, please PM me so I know you have done it. I will pray for you, tonight. :console:

You need the medical help of a psychiatrist who can offer drug therapy along with personal counseling. The problem is physiological not spiritual.

I agree with everyone here, if you haven’t already gone to receive help - PLEASE GO!

Mental illness is serious and suffering is unnecessary. I have Bi-Polar disorder with mild/moderate OCD, several of my friends do also. Get Help for yourself. You needn’t suffer alone and helpless with this. There is no stigma other than what you give to it. Help is out there.

PM me also please when you come back - you will be in my Rosary Prayers.

Peace and Blessings to you

John

Yes indeed. God would not ask you to do anything that would cause you harm, and getting those kinds of thoughts in your head is not from God. Please see a doctor and soon.
