So did your Priest refer to the 'Year of St Paul' at Mass today?

I am very curious to know if the special Pauline Year was mentioned today at your Mass. I ask because my poor, very humble Priest started Mass today with the words, “For some reason we are celebrating the Feast of Sts Peter and Paul today. I cannot ever remember celebrating this feast on a Sunday before but there you are!

I was very dissapointed to see that in this age of mass communication the message from Rome still does not get through even from our Diocesean offices.

Have any of your Churches lit a Pauline Candle or set up a special dedicated space to the Saint like a picture or an altar??

Very curious to now how it has translated into Parish life.

Are there any ceremonies or public functions being held in your Parish or neighbouring Parishes today?

Thanks be to God I don’t own any cats :o

Yes, he certainly did, and preached his sermon on these two princes of the Church. In addition, he said that our main parish church, St. Mary’s, was designated as one of the official visitation churches in order to obtain the plenary indulgence offered for the occasion.

He also mentioned it last week so we could be prepared by going to confession.

There was a long article in our Catholic newspaper about it last week, with 2 pages of photos of all the designated churches for obtaining the plenary indulgence in Western Australia.

It was just mentioned in passing. The homily did focus on St. Peter & St. Paul. Noting special being planned for the year.

Yes, both during the announcements and the homily. And, prayer cards (supplied by the diocese) were given to all at Mass today.

Yes; our pastor spoke at length on this. Our parish has had and will continue to have a series of special presentations on St. Paul and his writings during the year.

Yes, our pastor did mention that beginning today we would be celebrating the year of St. Paul. He said that the Holy Father wants us to explore St. Paul and be open to the spirit, just as Paul was.

Yes!! We were at another parish last night because I’ve had to work today and was not sure if we would get to Mass today. 😦 But yes, the priest did mention St. Paul and that we should spend the year getting to know him through his writings to better understand our own Faith.

Yes, this was the focus of the mass today. The readings & homilies focused how St. Peter & St. Paul were examples for us to follow. Even though they both denied Christ. Saul even persecuted the Christians. They were nonetheless, picked by God to establish his glory. They were renamed, to give them rebirth, so perhaps they could continue on in the work God designed them to do.

We too, have denied Christ, some in small ways, others in large ways. In the end, upon our return, God’s glory has been established in us. We are renewed, re-birthed by the holy spirit through the sacrament of reconciliation so that we may continue in the work God calls us to do.

The bulletin also had some reading of this celebration too.

yes because he has been planning for this for weeks, the sermon was about SS Peter and Paul, the explanation of the Pauline year and the indulgences was in last week’s bulletin. There is a sheet of hymns and prayers, including the Pope’s prayer, and those taken from Paul’s writings which will be used all year, and holy cards with Pauls picture and the jubilee prayer handed out at all Masses. We had an adoration vigil last night after Mass until midnight as we do before major feasts here.

There are initiatives planned throughout the year including special presentations and activities through CCD. The entire parish is invited to commit to a daily rosary, participation in a weekly rosary group or family rosary for the intention of evangelization (which ties nicely into the ongoing Disciples in Mission evangelization program). There will be specific bible studies on Paul’s writings throughout the year. Today’s sermon was on the life of St. Paul, and throughout the year there will be sermons on his letters.

We got a beautiful homily (as usual) on the great apostles but nothing on the Pauline year!😦

Same thing happened at our parish, also. I’m looking forward to participating in the many events, liturgies, and bible studies that will be available throughout the year! 👍

Yes the first sentence of the homily was “Last night Pope Benedict announced the year of Saint Paul” (ok thats a paraphrase, but you get the picture). The homily was mostly about St. Paul’s conversion, and he encouraged us to read more of St. Paul’s writings, and that there is going to be a bible study this fall on his writings. And I’m sure that we will be planning something for the children and teens this fall as well.

He also said that we can pay tribute to St. Paul in evangelization.👍

He talked not only about Saint Paul and Saint Peter today, he also has a pastor’s talk every Thursday about all the letters of Saint Paul this year. 🙂

Yes! Our priest gave a very good homily teaching us about these two great Saints and talking about the year dedicated to them. We recieved prayer cards after mass and he encouraged us - begged almost - to pray that prayer daily. He also encouraged us to turn on EWTN and watch what the Pope says about this in his homily.

No! I was disappointed. The homily was wishy-washy as well, with only a passing reference to St. Peter. But, our priest’s strength is definitely not in his homilies. He does well in many other areas, though.

Yep! 👍

Last week he told us all about how the year of St. Paul would start this week, and he told us about Pleniary Indulgences that would be available. This week he reminded us of it, and told us to google pleniary indulgences if we didn’t know what they were and hadn’t bothered to look them up last week.

The homily was about the conflicts between St. Peter and St. Paul, and was a reminder that even if we dislike someone at Church or can’t get along with them, we still need to respect them for all they do for our faith. Father informs us that St. Paul was a fanatic, and was probably pretty irritating, which is why he was sent off to convert Gentiles instead of irritating the Jews. However, he was responsible for the conversion of a lot of people, and helped the spread of Christianity around the world, so we owe him our respect. I like Father’s style.

Same thing at our Parish (although a pamphlet instead of prayer cards for hymns to be sung for today’s Mass). All four priests (and also our old monsignor), plus one of the deacons were celebrating the Mass. It was a sight seeing them at the consecration, especailly with Sanctus bells chiming! Plus, it was also the last Mass of one of our priests at our parish. He’ll be on the other side of the city, so I’ll have to visit his new parish when I visit my aunt and uncle.

Yes, the homily was centered around them. And he suggested a book about St. Paul to read in order to get to know him better. He also called our attention to the fact that about every sunday we read from his writting…🙂

God bless

Today we had joint recognition of the Feasts of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and of Ss Peter & Paul.

Father mentioned that the Novena Society had donated two kneelers for the niches, and said that for the next month there would be a Relic of St Paul available in one of the niches for prayer and meditation. He also made many references to Ss Peter & Paul during the various prayers offered.

Also, there was a special Vespers service yesterday (the Eve of the Feast of Ss Peter & Paul) in order to inaugurate the Pauline Year.

You are some very lucky people :o
I am so dissapointed right now that no effort, bar a mention on our Diocesean website has been made to mark this special year.

Rejoice those of you whose Parishes celebrate with Rome.
