Like I’ve said in other threads, I drive 45 minutes north to attend an EF Mass at the local cathedral.

Well, it turns out that the original cathedral plans weren’t completely finished when the building was built. They slapped a baldacchino on a high altar and called it good. Then, back in the 70s, they chopped up the communion rail and extended the sanctuary with a bunch of moderny furniture and an altar table that didn’t match anything. The bishop’s chair was torn out, as was the cool lectern that was 10 feet above the congregation.

I’m happy because next week, my EF Mass is moving to a different parish for TWO YEARS so that the cathedral can undergo a massive, extensive renovation. They’re not only renovating the murals, stations of the cross, and laying a new marble floor, but they’re also putting in a BRAND NEW high altar and baldacchino, as well as a new communion rail!

Here is the outside:

Here is the inside as it is currently:

It’s a video in which the bishop describes the changes.

This is what it’s going to look like:

In that drawing I also see the cathedra and the pulpit in their original positions!

I’m sorry if this is a stupid post, but I just wanted to gush about it!

There have been pleasant changes in my church, too. The ambo is back! And it is above the congregation, though not by 10 feet. But it’s high enough to make everyone look up!

Thank God they never tore the choir loft out, and the choir is now back up there. And we hear our nice old organ more and more often. Now, if we could just get more chant, and classic hymns, I’d be a happy person.

Our ordinary Mass is nice and reverent, and has slowly changed to be in line with the GIRM. I understand that Father is studying Latin… dare I hope? :yyeess:

God bless us and have mercy!

Ruthie
