**New Missal translation eases into parishes
"The new translation of the missal was used in Mass for the first time on Sunday, and won praise from a priest of almost six decades and another who has just celebrated his first Mass, reports the Australian…
“The difference between the two translations is incredible, with the new one being so rich and beautiful,” said Father Morgan, who elected to use the new translation for his first mass at St Christopher’s Holsworthy in southwestern Sydney.
Cardinal Pell, the Archbishop of Sydney, said the first masses in the new translation had gone smoothly at Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral, and he had good feedback from parishes. “People are quietly appreciative,” he said.
Many parishes began to use the new text on Pentecost Sunday. Parishes have until the first Sunday of Advent to make the full transition**."
In Australia we seemed to favor earlier introduction of the New Translation, and so few people are still slipping into the former responses.
For those who find it difficult to respond according to the new translation, it does get easier.
Australia’s Catholic Bishops decided to implement the changes to the Mass in this way
1 January – Learn to sing new words.
We can sing the new translation of the Lord Have Mercy, Gloria, Creed, Holy Holy, Acclamations and Lamb of God from 1 January.
Check the Archdiocesan Missal website for the new and revised Mass settings.
12 June (Pentecost Sunday) – Learn to say new words.
We are encouraged to say the new translation from 12 June.
Plus the new translation of familiar responses by the people.
The words will be on a people’s Mass card.
We can introduce them all at once, or gradually.
1 November (All Saints Day) – The official starting date.
We are all expected to be using the revised Mass texts.
So it is becoming ‘normal’ very quickly for most of us and will no doubt for those currently beginning with the New Translation
