So, how did the new translation go down at your parish?

Is anybody striking their breast during the Confiteor? Because myself and Father seem to be the only two people doing it! I happened to be with the choir this Sunday and was kind of embarrassed when I saw no one else doing it.

I’ll keep doing it but it’s kind of weird how everyone does all the responses but they ignore the actions (including the bowing part during the Apostle’s Creed).

Actions have always been problematic here in New England. In most parishes its only the priest who bows his head during the Creed. Its about 50/50 whether someone will bow before receiving communion as well.
Technically speaking, the striking of the breast was part of the previous translation so that’s nothing new.

Yes and no. Its just a translation, its not the deposit of faith.

To what end then? To fuel discontent? To stoke the fires of resentment?

They have only a short time each week to Catechise and they squander that time.

I understand the new kickoff rules for the NFL and I understand their reasons. I think their reasoning is flawed. However in speaking to someone about it I might simply say, “I don’t understand why they did that…”
He probably has read the reasoning behind the change and merely doesn’t agree with it.

Whether he agrees with the reasoning or not, it is encumbent upon him to explain this reason to the laity.

Ah, so because you’ve encountered others that you thought were in “mini rebellion” you are assuming someone you’ve never met and have only a small bit of information about from an internet forum is also in mini rebellion?
Prejudging someone based on someone else doesn’t seem very sound to me…

I am not prejudging him based on other priests. I am judging it based on what the poster has said.

At my mother’s parish, they stand during the Liturgy of the Eucharist for the most part. They have no kneelers there at all. The only sitting happens is when people sit down during Communion before its their turn to go up and receive then sit down again after receiving.

This was allowed in the old GIRM but I checked the new one and it is no longer allowed.

This was due to one of the Eucharistic Prayers which went " we stand before you".

Well, it’s not like you’re trying to slander or being mean towards the priest. Wasn’t ‘instructing the ignorant’ one of the spiritual works of mercy?

When you have children you too will feel “shoddy” and “ill-equipped.”

As I previously said, perhaps he’s had a lot of negative feedback on the new translation and was simply trying to show that he empathizes with them…

Perhaps he “squandered” an opportunity to promote the new translation, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t give a great homily that taught the faith.

Not really. Its his job to implement it, anything more is gravy.

There’s always a million and one things that need to be addressed. And constantly harping on a particular issue is a great way to be completely tuned out.

This reminds me of people who always claim teachers do such a poor job and they know the right way to teach children. Usually when given the chance to do it themselves they end up pulling their hair out by week 2!
